The Blue Jays apparently declined Rajai Davis's $3 million option, paying a $500k buyout instead. Then they turned around and re-signed him for a 1-year, $2.5 million deal. I'm curious is if there's some sort of procedural reason for that or if it just worked out that way.

That seemed really curious so I looked to see if I could find an answer elsewhere. According to the comments at MLBTR

 

He can be cut any time up until mid-March and the Blue Jays would only be responsible for 1/6 of his salary. If the team had simply exercised his option, the full amount would have been guaranteed regardless of when he was cut. I think structuring the move in this way gives the team some added flexibility in the event that someone better comes along to fill that roster spot.

 

So they made it non-guaranteed money in case they want to dump him

Not bad, but I was hoping they'd go with an updated version of the "shooting star" uniforms from their early days.

I wanted to see the rainbow sleeves, but they are present (albeit in modified form) on the BP gear.

MLB suspended Yasmani Grandal for 50 games without pay for testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

The suspension will take him out of commission for almost the entire first two months of the 2013 season. Grandal showed a lot of promise as a rookie this season, batting .297/.394/.469 with eight homers, 36 RBI and an .863 OPS over 226 plate appearances, so this is a very tough blow for the Padres' offense. Some have speculated that the Padres will shop Nick Hundley this offseason, but they may be more inclined to keep him around at this point.

 

Damn... I like Grandal. Oh well.

I didn't do that great (only got 74) I spaced out on a lot of old timers and there were a few that I never would have guessed.

 

Also, I knew Wade Boggs was good but I didn't realize how good.
