Anyone who thinks we're going to get anything significant from the Dodgers is dreaming.

If there is an upside to Eovaldi going in the Hanley deal, would it not be that the Dodger's presently need another starter (when is Lilly due back)? That offers the Cubs a little leverage, although not nearly as much as they once had.

Doubt it. Colletti probably made the deal for Hanley knowing that he has a good chance at Dempster, and the only thing he'll have to give up of value for both Hanley and Dempster is Eovaldi.

Only the Cubs. What a mess this has been

Lilly is throwing, should have a simulated game next week, followed by a rehab assignment. So, he's still a little ways away. I guess if they need a starter, they go with Fife, until they acquire one.

In the Trib there's an article where Demp says he will take his decision right up to the deadline.

Wouldn't a potential trade partner need to know before then, so they can switch to plan B if needed?

It's basically a passive aggressive way of exercising your 10/5 veto.

Looks like Brett just decided to read way too much into Dempster's words. He paid lip service to helping the organization get better but made it clear he could and may have to turn down a deal.

Yeah, I don't think the conclusion really fit the quote.

Wrn said little has changed regarding Dempster. He does not rule out the possibility of Demp in ATL, but says it's "highly unlikely."

I still think it's on the table if Demp has a last-minute change of heart. Or until the Braves trade Delgado in a Greinke deal.

As of now, Cubs' plan is to keep Dempster and make qualifying offer to get a draft pick -- unless offers improve. Not close to LAD deal yet.

Might as well. The draft pick will be a better prospect than anything Dodgers are willing to offer at this point.

Dempster and his agent need to hear the phrase "qualifying offer" as much as humanly possible so they can understand the ramifications of his actions.

About whether CHC could be at risk Dempster would accept '13 qualifying offer: They could always make it clear they're putting him in 'pen.

Good chance both Dempster and Garza are with Cubs after July 31st deadline.

I hope he rides the bench the rest of the year; I'd rather he do that then grant his wish of sending him to the Dodgers.

That makes absolutely no sense.

The only way this week gets worse is for Dad to announce he's acquired Chik-Fil-A or some stupid [expletive] like that.

And, because Dempster hopes that the Cubs can get the most possible for him, it seems highly unlikely that, if they look to trade him, he’d wield his no-trade rights aggressively. That would tie the Cubs’ hands, and they ultimately wouldn’t get “the best opportunity to improve the Cubs for the future.”“Any one of us is susceptible to being traded,” Dempster said. “For me, it’s a little different because I have the right to say ‘no.’ … Obviously I want to do what’s best for this organization. They’ve done nothing but right by me.”

All talk when the cameras and recorders are rolling, huh, Demp? What you actually ended up doing was the exact opposite. You have said that you want the Cubs to get the most value possible for you, and when the time came, you completely minimized your value and destroyed any chance for the Cubs to have leverage in a deal. Bravo. Dick. Keep talking.

And the rebuild was pushed back another year. Awesome.

That would be...disappointing.

we're not getting that draft pick. tt is right, dempster needs to hear the words "qualifying offer" over and over again and know that that offer is what he is going to get instead of a last, big, multi-year payday.
