we were still a really good team this year.

They absolutely were not. They were the 6th seed in the west. They did nothing in the playoffs.

They were 1 win away from having the 5th highest point total in the NHL. They were good enough to do something in the playoffs.

And yet they didn't.

They sucked on all aspects of special teams and just about everybody but Hossa was disappointing.

I think you're half right. Too small a sample to really judge Bowman. This year he signed a bunch of old guys to 1 year deals to give the kids more time to develop. Mayers was good. Father time and Brunette were not. Oduya was a good trade until the playoffs where he didn't look so great. Saad looks like a good draft pick and I suppose he got lucky on Shaw. That's a mixed bag

Q actually played John Scott in the playoffs on a power play! This season he also refused to put Montador on the PP or the penalty kill. The random line generator is very dusty esque. He rides the core into the ground while guys like Bickell languish in the press box.

What small sample? The guy has been here a long time and acquired zero impact players. Everybody good was acquired before he took over. The rest is just a bunch of guys.

I have not been the least bit impressed with Bowman and do not understand why so many people were high on him after the past two offseasons. Also, while Oduya may have played all right late in the regular season, the trade itself was by no means good. He gave up way too much for such a mediocre player with no future.

2 off seasons is a small sample, especially considering the first one was try to get anything at all from all the salary dumps everyone in the hockey world knew he was going to have to make. Hard to tell what he got since some of the pieces like Morin for example are still young and learning. He did get Stalberg who was pretty good this season and also Leddy. This season he was able to get a 5th round pick for John Scott. As for him overpaying for Oduya, every other available defense-man went for a lot more despite being perhaps only marginally better.

I'm not a Bowman apologist, but I think he gets at least 1 more off season to see what becomes of the moves he's made. Saad and Morin can make him look like a genius. A lot will depend on what happens with the goal tending situation.

2 off seasons is a small sample,

If he was somehow only GM for 2 offseasons maybe I'd agree, but he's been GM since the summer of 09. That's almost 3 full years, not just 2 offseasons. You are a GM all season long and he has yet to do anything to make the Blackhawks a better team than what they were the day before he got the job.

ohhh, Kaner....

On Monday we showed you photos of a soused Patrick Kane in Madison, Wis., and then we asked you if you knew more about what happened while Kane was there. We had heard some bad stories—that Kane supposedly choked a woman, that Kane supposedly said anti-Semitic things—and we wanted to know if other people had, too.....

I don't want to believe any of that. But I believe all of it.

In that case, you have to give him credit for winning the cup then. Everyone was screaming for a new goaltender but he held firm with Niemi and won. He could have used the capapocalypse as an excuse to trade say Sharp for a goaltender that season and not won.

I doubt we'll agree on this and that's fine. Personally, he has no excuses this off season. He has cap space so he can maneuver under the new, lower cap that everyone expects. He has a short list of holes to fill and plenty of young talent that can one way or another be used to address those needs. This time next year we'll either be talking about what the Hawks need to do to win the WCF or we'll be lighting torches. If it's the later, I'll bring the matches myself.

I have no problem with Mayers for one year. Probably like $700K or something. That's fine.

But does the market bear a three-year deal for Oduya? Jesus, Stan. WTF?

Okay they are saying $600K for Mayers and something less than the $3.5M Oduya was making per season.

But honestly I don't care about the price for him. If you tell me he's getting $2M/year, it's still a bad deal. The guy is too small to deal with any kind of hard forecheck. Which pretty much makes him worthless.

He made that much? Wow, I was thinking as some $1m guy he wasn't terrible filler, but that's a bit much.

Yeah, Oduya's last contract was for $3.5M/year, I think for three years.
