Paul Maholm

0-2, 13.50 ERA

Career vs. Reds: 6-4 with a 3.81 ERA in 19 starts. 120.1 IP, 86 K and 41 BB.

Cubs will try to stop this six game losing streak in which they've been out scored, 43-14. Leake pitched pretty well in his first start against the Cardinals, then blew a five run lead he had against the Nationals. Maholm has given up 6 ER in 4 IP in each of his first two starts as a Cub.

I don't buy much into the "buy high/sell low" idea, as if the other teams don't know about BABIP and regression to the mean.

But it's still odd timing.

Makes sense to me. Boston very much has a need and it wasn't going to be there forever. It's the system Hoyer and Theo are most familiar with (as they freaking made it) and a front office they're presumably on good terms with. Given Byrd's history, I don't think his slow start hurt his trade value that much.

The difference in return for Byrd is likely to be in how much of his contract is picked up. And with no hope for draft compensation, the more of the season he plays for the new team, the greater his trade value.

DeWitt in LF? Ugh.

Lol I remember those days. OOOOOOOOOH you meant...[expletive].

Edit: F yes on a Byrd trade. I'll take Campana's youth and then eventually what'shisnames talent. Maybe we can pick up an interesting arm or something.
