Lowest payroll since 2005.

The Cubs have only two players at over $10 million in Alfonso Soriano ($19 million) and Ryan Dempster ($14 million). Fourteen players make $2 million or less, including newly signed infielder Luis Valbuena ($495,000).

Not included is the money being paid to Zambrano, or Randy Wells' salary.

With another 35 mil, give or take between Dempster, Byrd, Pena, Zambrano, and some additonal miscelanny(Wood, Baker, Johnson) coming of the books after this season, if nothing else there's no excuse not to extend Castro.

I love how they brag about cutting the payroll, but then let you know in small print that it doesn't include the $20 million we're paying Zambrano and Wells. The guys who handle the books must work for the government.

That's Sullivan "bragging" about it.
