Is Carimi someone we need to worry about? When he first was hurt, it was supposed to be a few weeks. Then it was the season. Now he is on track for June?

I guess his last surgery was to strengthen some ligaments, but I figured he would be back by now. I had no idea he was still out.

Lot of questions about WR Alshon Jeffery after he left 1st minicamp practice with what team said was leg cramp. Knock on him was he could get out of shape but 2nd rd pick from South Carolina looked to be in fine shape. He’s got terrific size and moved well for big man. Question will be can Jeffery gain separation from the line of scrimmage when the bullets are live. A big WR is a big target for DB to get his hands on when ball is snapped. This speed bump today wasn’t because he is not in shape.

i think it's awesome that a mildly re tarded individual such as dickerson, who uses "of" to represent "have" and "eventually" inexplicably twice in the same sentence, has a job.

The Bears walked away from the first day of rookie camp encouraged by the glimpse they caught of rookie second-round receiver Alshon Jeffery, who eventually left the field close to the end of practice after catching leg cramps. Prior to Jeffery leaving, Tice watched the rookie “picking peanuts off some guys’ heads,” during drills.

Jeffery will play the “Z” receiver spot in the slot. New acquisition Brandon Marshall and veteran Devin Hester will play on the outside, with the latter playing a much more significant role in 2012 than in years past on offense because of the club’s plans to creatively deploy him in a variety of places.

One NFL source said the Bears’ 2012 passing game will essentially be the 2008 passing offense of the Denver Broncos, a system well known by new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, both Marshall and quarterback Jay Cutler, who the source said, “really likes Hester in the new system.”

Not sure I like this. Hester as the #2? Ugh. Would have wanted Alshon on the outside and Earl in the slot. But w/e...I'm guessing they want Hester to play Eddie Royal?

They want at least one guy defenses worry about stretching the field.

Guys, should we start to worry about Knox? He seems to recover slowly from near-death experiences. Is this going to be a common issue for him moving forward?

(please, please, PLEASE note the heavy sarcasm)

Some fluff on the rookies...

Michael C. Wright ‏ @mikecwright

Polished. Not developmental project. RT @DaBears213: @mikecwright From what you've seen so far, what do you think of Alshon Jeffery?

Zach Zaidman ‏ @ZachZaidman

He practices like he's playing in a game. Very intense. RT @HenryManny: @ZachZaidman What are your first impressions of Shea from practice?

Michael C. Wright ‏ @mikecwright

Looked good. Looked like real deal. RT @SirJohnnyStone: @mikecwright how was jeffery's routes yesterday? That was one of his knocks.

Alshon Jeffery, the second-round pick out of South Carolina, has the potential to be a solid player in this league. He has real size, length and a body that shows lean mass. With all the talk throughout the draft process about his weight, Jeffery looked the part of a size/speed player.

Before the wide receiver left with leg cramps on Friday, he was smooth in his release, showed the ability to glide down the field on the deep ball and was much better than I expected coming out of his breaks. At the top of the route stem, Jeffery needs to sell the cut (which will come through repetition), but the talent is there. That was on display during one-on-ones when he climbed the ladder and attacked the football.

With defensive end Shea McClellin, the work ethic is as good as advertised. The first-round pick plays hard. I could see that during drills. McClellin explodes with his movements, is violent with his hands and finishes with speed.

It is hard to get a good grasp of how he will project yet without pads and real contact at the point of attack. But knowing what the Bears look for in their edge rushers, I understand why Phil Emery valued him so highly in the draft.

Sweet the offense that finished 16th in the NFL in points that year. OK they did finish 2nd in total yards so it was probably just Jay Cutler turning it over in the red zone a lot.

James Brown stands out at practice...

Scouts from three organizations told the Tribune that marijuana was an issue for Brown

and that led their teams to remove his name from their draft boards.

When asked if he wanted to address the matter, Brown said, "Could be something to that."

If this is what dropped him....hurray! There are so many worse things to drop a college player than tokin'.

They had terrible field position that year. Their defense was horrible, I don't have the actual analytics off hand but they were backed up a lot. def had lot of yards and low TO ratio.

Two days into the rookie minicamp, he looks like he belongs.

"He has stood out in the drills," coach Lovie Smith said. "You notice him. He's slim, athletic, good size, smile on his face and he was a pretty good player in college. However (he went undrafted), we're just glad he's in our camp."

Brown got plenty of play during the draft, especially from ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., who had him listed as his 54th best player. Kiper talked about Brown repeatedly during the later rounds but the 6-foot-4, 306-pounder never had his name called.

Yeah that looks rather promising, especially Kiper having him as a 2nd round talent.

It can't be just weed. This is the NFL, weed doesn't drop a potential top-3 round guy to UDFA.

The Chicago Bears cleared roster space for the seven players who earned contracts after tryouts at rookie minicamp over the weekend by waiving tackle Levi Horn, guard Reggie Stephens and tight end Andre Smith.

Could be weed, but dealing it rather than smoking it.
