Yeah, there isn't a need for a conviction. It's not a court of law. It's a PR thing. If Marshall gets charged and the police more or less buy her story, he's going to get suspended. If this just hangs out there for a while with no charges, I doubt anything happens.

that's shaky ground though. it's got to be tough to suspend a player and dock their pay if there is nothing there to go on. they were able to get ben because of the alcohol provided to minors thing. unless marshall was doing the same thing, or unless they can get him on something else, depriving him of pay for no other reason than the commissioner's hunch or for appearances sake, he'd have a very good law suit against the league. he could likely file some sort of injunction which would allow him to play and get paid until the matter is reviewed in court.

Have you been following Goodell at all? He's a honey badger. He will use any excuse to suspend a guy, and somebody with a record who gets charged with punching a woman in the face will be an easy target. My guess is that without multiple reliable witnesses there won't be much chance for charges, so it shouldn't matter. But never count out the ginger hammer.

Old youtube references aside, LPF is still correct.

in all fairness, appearances DO matter in jersey....

Hub Arkush is reeming the Bears for Marshall and his past history of wife beating.

And he's applauding the move of resigning Izzy and saying they should have made it a 2 or 3 year deal.

I'd be shocked if the standard NFL contract language isn't broad/vague enough to allow them to suspend someone without a conviction.

Atlanta only offering John Abraham 2.5 million for one year. Give him

4 million for a year and you get him. He's better than Idonije and you need multiple pass rushers. 9.5 sacks last year.

I know you're a law-talking guy, but i would question the validity of any contract that would include the waiver of basic labor rights. I mean, the contract could also say that Goodell reserves the right to murder Marshall, too.

The NFL is not above the law, although I think Goodell would try his best.

The other thing is, where does it end. The guy puts himself in trouble, or causes trouble himself, on a regular basis. The likelihood that this would be the last time he's flirting with a suspension is very small. It's going to keep coming up.

But it's an image thing. The NFL has the right to pretty much suspend anybody for being an ass. You do not need a conviction to be suspended by Roger Goodell.

He's done a really good job of making that clear too.

yes, but he's walking a thin line if no wrongdoing whatsoever can be proven.

courts have blocked his suspensions before.

Sure it's a thin line, but he hasn't hesitated to walk it. In the specific case of Marshall it would seem to be difficult to have a suspension without something like an arrest being made or a settlement being reached with the woman who says she got hit.

Have you been paying attention? Big Ben wasn't even charged and he got 4 games.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Will-Lovie-Bears-look-to-the-draft-to-find-a-DE.html

Before free agency started, we posted the draft needs for the Bears and listed WR and DE as their top two priorities this offseason. On Tuesday, new GM Phil Emery upgraded the WR position (and added a No.1 target for QB Jay Cutler) when he traded for Brandon Marshall.

But what about the DE position? With Mario Williams landing in Buffalo and Jeremy Mincey re-signing in Jacksonville, the free agent market is thin. And outside of taking a look at Kamerion Wimbley if he is cut from the Raiders (or some second tier options on the market), the Bears will have to focus on the April draft.

I still lmao at that Moon Mullin report monday night that had the Bears as "favorites" for Mario Williams.

I actually pay attention to him, because what he does report, you expect the complete opposite to happen...maybe he's their diversion lol

I feel like he rarely actually reports anything. He just sort of apologizes for the team's weaknesses and explains away their inability to address them.

Bears are having a press conference for Marshall and Campbell at 11am central.

this reminds me of that awkward Peppers, Taylor, Manumaleuna press conference. A franchise defensive end, plus a backup RB and garbage tight end. Now it's a franchise WR and a backup QB being lumped together.
