I hope Tampa Bay somehow beats Atlanta so the meatballs can all cry about how we'd be in the playoffs if we didn't blow the Broncos game.

As it is, I don't know if I can blame Hanie or the Cutler injury for missing the playoffs. Of course they had a massive effect, but even with Hanie, we are probably in the playoffs right now if 2 plays go differently:

1) Roy Williams catches a game tying TD against KC instead of deflecting it into a DB's arms.

2) One of the 50 things that had to go absolutely right for Denver to beat the Bears didn't happen.

Assuming we find a way to finish off the Chiefs, we sit at 10-6, Cutler is back, Forte is probably back and we are the team no one wants to face in the playoffs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Detroit and Atlanta both finished 10-6, the Bears could have went 10-6 and still missed the playoffs due to losing the 3-way tiebreaker. So in reality we came up three wins short. No doubt in my mind that Cutler's injury was almost 100% to blame for missing the playoffs. We don't go worse than 4-2 with him playing.

McCown is nothing special but not Hanie bad. The decision to stick with Hanie cost us the playoffs.

Don't buy it. Hanie was playing in games that mattered. McCown came in for the last 2 games after the air had been let out of the balloon. There's no way of saying McCown would have performed well in those other games, when the situation was different (and when McCown had really just arrived in town).

The strong likelihood is that both Hanie and McCown aren't good, and the season simply ended when Cutler went down.

We lost our two top players. The season ended when we went from a team with some offensive talent which was finally starting to gel, to a team with no offensive talent at all and no clue how to consistently score, and to play with relatively few mistakes.

Considering there are now eight 8-8 teams and the Bears are toward the bottom of those teams in tiebreakers, looks like today's win cost us a good 6 or 7 spots in the draft. :(

The Bears in this hypothetical scenario would have lost to Seattle, making the Lions and Bears tie on common opponents record (each going 9-5). They both went 3-3 in the division, so it would come down to conference record. Not sure how that turned out.

Edit: The win today gave the Bears a 7-5 conference record and the Lions 6-6. So it looks like, had we beat Denver and KC like we easily could/should have, we'd be in the playoffs as the 5 seed along with Atlanta.

So we probably lose out on Michael Floyd and a shot for trading up for Blackmon.

Probably lost a chance at Jeffery, Martin and DeCastro and Urlacher got hurt.

maybe you can convince everyone that blackmon's mother was a prostitute and get him to drop.
