So Lamar Odom and Dallas agreed to part ways and Odom can go home and the Mavericks are still going to pay him? WTF? The guy just goldbricked his way to an almost $9M salary? I would send his ass to the D-League and make him ride a bus around the rest of the year in order to get his money. Edited by Smack

He's probably more valuable as a contract sitting on his ass. They can trade him in the offseason to clear up space to sign Deron and stuff. Not sure how making him play in the D-league helps his value at all. I think making him leave the team is the best way to salvage what little value Odom has left. Playing him certainly doesn't help it, and hurts the team in the process. Plus Mavs fans loathe Odom. When I was at their game last week, they pretty much boo'd him everytime he touched the ball.

So paying a player to sit at home because he doesn't want to put any effort out on the floor is the way to go now? Man, the NBA is fan [expletive] tastic.

You understand he has a contract.

Which is why it would be nice to get some benefit from paying him. If he wants to be a dickbag and not put out any effort make him ride the [expletive] bus around in the D-League (or he doesn't get paid). How does letting him pout and sit at home because he's not with the Kardashians do anything other than encourage other dickbags to do the same thing?

Spurs total team rebounds: 33

Andrew Bynum total rebounds: 30

The 30 boards were the most by a player in a game this year and only the 14th time since the 85-86 season that a player had at least 30 rebounds.

Did the spurs rest everyone?

Nope. It was actually the Lakers who weren't at full strength because Kobe sat out again.

Probably why they won - Gasol and Bynum actually got touches.

Did you even read my post? It doesn't make sense to make him toil in the D-League. There is absolutely no benefit to Dallas. Making him toil there would likely kill whatever value he has left. Like it or not but NBA teams base decisions on what is best for the organization and not spite.

Also, this is not even close to the first player that has been sent home to collect his paycheck. It has happened a number of times in the NBA.

Or that Ron Artest somehow managed to shoot 10-15 for the game including 5-8 from three. The points, FGA, FGM, 3PTA and 3PTM were all season highs for him.

Gasol and Bynum did shoot a lot, just not that well (16-44 combined). Gasol took 24 shots, which was one short of his season-high of 25, which he took on Saturday, a game Kobe also missed. Three of Pau's four highest single game FGAs each came in the last three games with Kobe out. Bynum's 20 FGAs were tied for his second most of the season, behind the 27 he took in the same game Pau took 25.

On a related note, it's amazing how consistent Gasol has been offensively throughout his career.

Each season he has averaged:

Between 17.3 and 20.8 points per game

Between 6.4 and 7.8 FGM per game

Between 12.4 and 14.9 FGA per game

How does paying him to sit at home benefit Dallas? How does that 'save' his trade value? He has no trade value because Dallas has no leverage. He's going to be able to dictate where he goes because he'll just tell whoever he doesn't want to play for to expect more of the same.

The message has been sent to all the other teams - Lamar Odom will play for you only when and if he wants. Dallas is going to have to pay him a million dollars to sit at home the rest of this season and then a $2.4M buyout.

Dallas should at least be able to suspend him without pay if he refuses to follow team rules, show up on time, and put forth effort. I do enjoy the fact that everyone else seems to be in favor of allowing him to do whatever he wants. Hell, he should've just skulked his way to his couch the day after he signed the contract. Why make him play at all, I mean he has a CONTRACT.

Free agents will be very eager to sign with your team when you make a petty move purely out of spite.

It's petty to expect a player to show up, follow rules, and put forth effort?

edit: I do see you point though, their current path will attract the best kind of free agents.

Yes there will certainly be a steady stream of players going to Dallas and then quitting on the team.

So it really is perfectly fine with you, what he's doing. No issues whatsoever with it?

There's not being happy about it, and there's trying to gain revenge about it. Whatever, it's a dead issue, it happened, it sucks for the Mavs, but oh well. Seeing as I'm not a Mavericks fan, I really can't be bothered to care.
