Every baseball writer that's tweeted about this has said it's a year too late. Ronny's still smiling about it though. I hope Pat does his induction as well.

Ron Santo gets elected to the HOF, Fergie Jenkins replies to me on Twitter-- today has been awesome so far and it's not even Noon yet!

Care to elaborate on Fergie?

I just tweeted him to say I was happy for him, Billy, and Ernie that their friend Ron was joining them in the HOF and that it was a long time coming. He replied with a simple "Thank you. Couldn't agree more."

I didn't realize that he was in the radio booth for 21 years. Most of my life.

I would give any of my worldly possessions to hear Pat and Ron in the booth calling a Cubs World Series game.

Bittersweet, but definitely a great day to be a Cubs fan.

And it came nearly a year to the day after we lost Ronnie. Last year at this time we were in mourning.

Seconded

The last picture my second cousin ever posted on his Facebook page was Ronnie's number 10. It was just after Ronnie had passed away, and it was the day before he too passed away.

I know two people that loved the Cubs more than just about anything that are clicking their heels in the great beyond this morning.

Miss ya, Kent. Give my regards to #10.

I did speeches in high school that revolved around getting him in. I always had this suspicion that it wouldn't happen until right after he died. I wish I wasn't right on this one and wish he as alive to see it since it did mean so much to him.

Maybe I'm being extreme here but this doesn't really make me all that happy. This was the one year that I didn't want to see him make it, and of course he does. I wanted so badly for him to make it each time over the last decade and felt sadness everytime he fell short. Everyone knew he wanted this so badly. That's not a reason to vote someone in of course but most of us would agree that his credentials were there.

Voting him in the year after he does seems like a cruel joke by the veterans committee, and while I'm extremely happy for Ron and his family who is around to see it, I wish they would have waited another year to see him get in.

Very happy for the Santo family, but I'm very bitter about the way this whole thing went down. I wanted to see his reaction to an extremely long injustice finally getting corrected. He deserved that.

I have a very wide range of emotions about this:

Happy that Santo was finally elected to the HoF.

Sick and furious that he wasn't elected while alive!

Happy that somewhere Joe Morgan is pissed that Santo got in.

Hall Of Fame, I do not get the induction process. If it took Ron this long to get in then just close the doors and get ride of the Hall.

A feel a universal wrong was righted today.

I also feel that it came at a price and the bitter outweighs the sweet just now.

Seriously though, who was the ass-clown who voted no?

I'd like to know as well.

And I agree with everyone saying that it's nice to finally see, but it should have been done while Ronnie was still alive to see it.

If it were solely up to Joe Morgan, the Veterans Committee would vote Ron Santo and Maury Wills into the Hall of Fame.

"I can't really give you a 'why' (Santo has not been voted in yet)," Morgan told us before broadcasting Sunday night's Cubs- Phillies game for ESPN. "I can only tell you what I have said before when people ask me: I get a vote in the Veterans Committee. The first name I put down is Maury Wills. I'll just tell you that. Then I put Ron Santo's name down second. I voted for Ron every time; I voted for Maury Wills every time I had a vote."
