what else would the cubs have done with the $1.2m they gave him? they already had a ridiculous amount of money left over this offseason. it's a one year deal. the fact that he got 1.2 instead of like 500k is completely and totally irrelevant.

 

i understand that talking about character and clubhouse stuff is usually meatbally, but i think people can get a little too extreme with it and forget there are other things that the front office have to consider beyond just production.

It's not quantifiable as of yet. That doesn't mean it's made up. I don't think any of us can speak definitely on the subject unless we've worked in major league baseball.

 

Theo and Jed have been successful and been around a lot of clubhouses, so getting rid of someone like Zambrano and keeping someone like Reed Johnson must mean they think it has some sort of value.
