It's up and running and ready for your entries.

I'll work on getting the scoreboard up later in the week.

i'll try it again tomorrow, but it wouldn't let me submit my entry because the stupid captcha wouldn't accept my input. i don't know if it's broke or not, i think i tried every conceivable interpretation of "opzw". is there a way to refresh for a new captcha without losing all the work?

I don't know how to get it to validate before submission, so I removed the captcha. I don't think I'll get any spam entries on that, anyway.

3 entries plus my test so far. C'mon guys!

Alright...

Lots of people going to the page, few completing the whole damn thing. Apparently, 50 is too many.

What's the right length? 10? 20? 25?

Just completed it (with the last 15 all Yankees). I'd say 25, but include Darvish and Chen as well.

EDIT: Also, don't include CC, since he already signed. Unless you want that to be your new captcha. Form invalidated if user chooses anything but Yankees for CC.

I checked it out; I'll be backto fill it out when I have a little more time. 20-25 would be ideal, but I'll slog through 50 if you opt not to change it.

There's just so many random guesses....no idea where to start with someone like Andruw Jones. I'd say 25-30 is enough.

An alternative (if you felt like coding it) would be to set up the form to accept a minimum of 25 and leave the 50 in there, so the contest results could somehow be scaled depending how many guesses you made.

at 25, I would have cut off some interesting guys like Aaron Hill. So I made it 30 long.

The Japanese players don't have WAR, so they are not listed.

This means WAR. They could be a tiebreaker.

Filled mine out, started overthinking it, started over, and ended with a really stupid entry. For example, I think the Cards are 60/40 to sign Pujols, but if they don't I have them picking up 3 or 4 different FAs. Therefore based on my contest entry I have them with about $50M to spend this offseason. Did a similar thing with the Cubs and Prince Fielder.

I'll be surprised if I hit double digits.

Next time, I think I'll limit the players, but give three entries for each player. If your first pick for the player is right, full points. Second pick, half point. Third pick, one third points.

Should I set up that format tonight?

This season in particular, that could be a very amusing exercise.

Either way. I like the idea of setting up a confidence pool rather than a WAR-based points pool. That way you could leave as many FA in there as you wanted, include the non-MLB players, and let people choose their top 20 confidence picks.

Confidence pool, from 25 for most confidence to 1 for least confidence. Have common players selectable (if you have a database of players available from which to select), with several "type your own other options" at the bottom.

Granted, in that scenario, the vast majority (if not all) of entries will have very similar top 5's, but especially this year it's pretty wide open.

It has to be weighted, though. Picking barmes to return to Houston just isn't as impressive as getting Fielder right.

Says you! No, I get that the point is to try to get the marquee FA right, and that it should count for more if you did. I also want to see a viable way to get the Japanese players available, and to keep the list from getting too unwieldy.
