Not to get too off subject (I don't think it deserves a thread), but speaking of reclamation projects, Chris Young (pitcher) is a FA. He's coming off a torn shoulder capsule, but he's saying he expects to be 100% at spring training. Even coming off of the injuries, he's been pretty dominant when he's been out there. Given his last contract was just over 1M, i'd expect his next contract to be in that neighborhood.

I think this one fits better in the general FA thread, tbh.

On the down side, Grady's last fully healthy season is getting pretty far in the past. 2008 was the last time he played more than 110 games. He's only played 104 in the past two seasons combined. That should help keep the price down.

Speaking of Cleveland OFers...how interesting would Choo be if he were to find his way onto the trade market?

Very, but it won't happen. From all reports, the Indians are pretty keen on keeping him around as long as they can, and I bet the only way they won't is if he himself decides not to sign an extension and test the market instead.

At this point Sizemore reminds me of a much higher upside Rocco Baldelli, who Theo signed a few years ago. Seems like the kind of guy the new regime would go after. Even in the best case scenario, Sizemore's not going to be a 6-7 WAR guy again, but he's still a nice lottery ticket.

Why not? If he can stay healthy, I don't think there's any reason this is impossible. Likely? No. But not impossible either.

Because that would make him one of the best 10 or so players in baseball and I don't think it's very likely.

Sizemore looks very much like a Theo type target. However, as has been mentioned, others will be thinking the same thing. I think it ultimately depends on the mini bidding war that will ensue. At that point, Sizemore will have to decide among the best suitors on a one year showcase deal. The Cubs can easily find a way to have him in the lineup on a daily basis if he's healthy/ performing. Trading Byrd would not be a prerequisite to going after Grady Sizemore.

No? Then you have Soriano, Byrd, Sizemore, Jackson and Colvin fighting for playing time. You're going to have to promise Sizemore a starting role. I'm not worried about Colvin. Does that leave Byrd, Soriano, or Jackson as your fourth outfielder?

You can easily leave Jackson in AAA. He still has work to do as a prospect. When he looks ready, then you can trade Byrd during the season.

Of course, I don't think Marlon fits with what Theo is looking for in a hitter, anyway, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him moved this winter.

I was wondering when this would be mentioned. Jackson could still probably use 200-300 PAs or so in the minors, and I was confused why it seemed a few were just handing him CF ABs already.

Jackson's a good prospect, but I feel like he's shifted from a little underrated to a just a tad bit overrated. He didn't exactly kick ass and take names at either stop at AA, and unlike Vitters he was proper age rather than young for the level. He's as good a piece of trade bait as Los Cachorros have.

Also, even if you have Jackson on the roster, he's probably going to have a decent sized platoon split, and Byrd and Soriano both have heavy platoon splits. Promising Sizemore everyday at bats as long as he's healthy while the other two spots from some sort of platoon arrangement isn't really a far fetched scenario.

Depending on contract, yes he is worth the risk especially if we can dump someone else. Lefty bat off of the bench/platoon with Jackson. At the same time should he provide useful/healthy he could be a nice trading piece at the next deadline next summer to try to load up more prospects.

Absolutely.

Well alright...

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Rangers, Yankees, Cubs and Giants have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Grady Sizemore.

The Phillies, Red Sox, Indians and Rockies are also reportedly interested, so competition should be fierce in the coming days and weeks. The oft-injured 29-year-old is believed to be looking for a one-year deal in hopes of rebuilding his value and testing the free agent market again next offseason.

Excellent news. Go ahead and get him AND Cespedes. Figure everything else out later.

We could just tell Sori the season was cancelled and hope he doesn't show up.

Or send him down to Venezuela...

Too soon?

I know this has been discussed in the past, but on a scale of one to crazy, how crazy would it be to consider moving Soriano back to 2B? Assuming you trade Byrd, an outfield of Cespedes, Sizemore and Jackson would be pretty damn fun.

On a scale of one to crazy, it'd be infinity crazy.

That would be a 10 on the crazy scale.

It makes Soriano to 3rd look like viable option in comparison
