Is Rudy on borrowed time now that Theo has made the edict of patience and grinding ABs? Holly says Rudy teaches both

TL: How do you think Theo’s edict of patience and grinding out at bats will affect Rudy Jaramillo’s future with the Cubs?

TH: Rudy Jaramillo does preach patience and grinding out AB's. I worked with him in Texas and he made a lasting impression on me. Rudy doesn't do the hitting, he does the teaching. He can teach anyone and work with many different personalities. I witnessed it first hand. You should have seen that Texas club in 2002.

I think overpaying for a hitting coach is a silly thing to do. I also don't trust Holly to know what the hell he's talking about.

He already has a contract so they might as well ride it out. Seems like a non-issue.

If we bring in a manager that stresses a patient approach and "grinding at bats", I do not think there's any problem with Jaramillo. Rudy is a coach that stresses mechanics, but that isn't incompatible with a patient approach.

Spend for a great hitting coach at the minor league level

Keep Rudy, but replace Riggins asap.

I don't think anyone believes that Riggins will be back at the major league level next year.

I have to think if anything, that Rudy is more safe. Who was it that said a while back that the Cubs were behind the curve in teaching rotational hitting, and that it would lead to incompatibilities with Jaramillo? I think the "Cubs way" unified philosophy stuff would only serve to benefit Rudy, as I don't think his methods are exactly off the grid.

While Rudy might be safe in the short-term, I have to imagine the days of $850,000 hitting coaches are about over for this organization. And that makes me happy.

i don't really care about how much the hitting coach is paid. he's getting $850k a year; how much does the average major league hitting coach get, maybe $500k? that's $350k in difference. even under great management, any baseball team is going to waste way more money than that on bad free agent signings and draft busts. front office and coach salaries are a drop in the bucket compared to major league payroll. case in point - the guy who will be setting the philosophy for the entire organization for the next several years will be earning basically the same annual salary that john grabow, a mediocre middle reliever, earned the past two years.

Stop me if this sounds crazy, but while we have the top of the line hitting coach what could be the harm on stocking up on available former top prospects on minor league deals IE Brandon Wood, Jeff Clement, Andy Laroche and see what he can do with them?

What?! Use our available assets to take advantage of our strengths in a way that risks very little, but could potentially provide significant results, especially now that we have an organizational philosophy that will provide a better chance of realizing that potential? Yeah, you're crazy.
