they should offer the raiders chris henry for a 7th and see if they bite

too soon.

Yeah, they have to wait til next year when the Raiders have a 7th.

They gave up way too much especially because the Bengals really didn't have any leverage unless the Raiders really believed that the Bengals were willing to let his contract run out and get nothing for him.

That said, Carson Palmer is not a bad pickup purely as an addition. Yes he sucked last year when he was supposed to be leading the Bengals to victories. But in Oakland all he needs to do is make throws when needed and hand it off the rest of the time. He's certainly a better option than Boller. Since they got off to a good start this year and Al Davis died, they obviously want to make the playoffs this year, and Carson Palmer, for all his warts, is certainly a better choice to get them there than Boller or whoever else.

that said, Carson Palmer of 2011 has like 25% of the value that Jay Cutler did 3 years ago and the returns for both are somewhat similar. Raiders will regret this trade sooner than later.

I agree with this.

Palmer is probably the best Raiders QB since??? Rich Gannon???

He wasn't even as good as Campbell was the last two years.

Also, they gave up a fourth rounder for Campbell before the 2010 season. Most they're giving up two first rounders for a QB who is worse than Campbell. I dont mind getting a QB but the price is [expletive] ridiculous.

It's because of trades like this that we get stories like the Red Sox asking for Matt Garza in exchange for Theo.

[expletive] the Raiders are stupid.

Is Palmer even better than Garrard at this point?

Garrard's having back surgery or some ish.

So no.

Well let's not say things we can't take back.

Don't forget they also gave up a...5th? rounder to take Pryor in the supplemental draft.

Third rounder.

I think I've figured out the Raiders' plan. They're trying to become the first team ever to not have any picks in the NFL draft.

They traded their 1st rounder for Carson Palmer.

They traded their 2nd rounder before the 2011 draft (along with a 2011 7th) to New England for 2011 3rd and 4th rounders.

They lost their 3rd rounder by picking Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft.

They traded their 4th rounder for Jason Campbell.

They traded their 7th rounder for Aaron Curry.

I can't wait to see who they can pick up for their 5th and 6th rounders.

So wait..if the draft was today, they would only have a 5th and 6th round pick to use in it? Or are there other picks that they've acquired from trades? That's hilarous if true.

I was going off wiki and that's what they currently show.

TT mentioned it on the last page and they said something about it on SportsCenter but I guess they're hoping to get some compensation picks for Gallery and Asomugha, though I have no idea what rounds those would be.

That's alot to give up, but if there's a position you do that for it's QB...

Yeah, when the QB is still good, and not 32.

Right. Nobody's getting on them for spending the picks on a QB. They're getting on them for spending picks on a mediocre, oldish QB.

32 is not old. This is especially true considering the modern NFL rulebook is actually titled "How to Maximize Offense and Make Sure QBs Don't Get Touched." And while Carson Palmer isn't Carson Palmer 2005, he's still a pretty good and talented QB. The Bengals are just kind of a joke...

Palmer was bad last year, hasn't played or practice since last year, has had injury issues, and there's significant doubts that he's even physically capable of being an NFL QB at this point.

He wasn't bad...He was mid-level...even going as high as 10th in DYAR on FO...18th in DVOA...along with 26 TDs and completed 61% of his passes...not exactly crapping the bed here...and he was working with a mediocre franchise filled with mediocre/aging players on offense...their big non-QB playmaker last year was whoever you pick between Cedric Benson or TO.

My only problem is that the Raiders paid a good price on someone they arguably could have bought low on...Otherwise I think this is a really smart move for them. They're not in the Luck hunt this year, and after Luck (and maybe Barkley) the college QB situation over the next couple of years is pretty crappy. They get a former elite QB talent who is now an angry vet with the proverbial chip on his shoulder...Keep in mind that the last QB to do anything significant with the Raiders was a 34+ year old retread....and that this is a team that was surprising people with Jason Campbell at QB.

Jason Campbell in 09 (Age 28): 86.4 QBRat, 64.5 Comp%, 20 TD, 15 INT

Carson Palmer in 10 (Age 31): 82.4 QBRat, 61.8 Comp%, 26 TD, 20 INT

Jason Campbell was worth a future 4th rounder.

Carson Palmer was somehow worth a 1st and 2nd (maybe two firsts).

Well, you're ignoring Landry Jones this year and Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray next year.

Whether or not Palmer was elite a few years ago matters not now. The Raiders aren't getting Palmer from his heyday and even if they captured lightning in a bottle with him, they significantly overpaid.
