I believe the Press Conference will replay on CSN Chicago at 4:30 and after that Theo will be on Kapman's show "Chicago Tribune Live" at 5:30.

Man, that was an awesome conference! So [expletive] pumped! Everything he said was gold.

bernstein talking about how we need to hire someone to be a castro coach.

Man, Bernstein used to be good....it's sad how dumb he's gotten.

It's frustrating because he's the only person that knows about advanced stats and he'll actually cite BP and Fangraphs and he'll cite things like WAR, but then he just has completely idiotic takes on things/opinions.

I think you guys are missing the point he was making. Simply that Castro is not strong in some of the areas that Theo seems to deem as pretty important, like defense and plate patience. He was just saying Castro may need a little extra help to become what he potentially can and be a Theo type of player.

If that's the point he was making, then we need to hire that coach to train the rest of the organization, minus Brett Jackson.

I don't know what he meant by a "Castro coach," but if you believe proper coaching can help young players develop, which apparently Epstein does, then helping Castro in the natural but not inevitable transition from young toolsy SS to reliable SS would be a pretty important task for the organization.

I agree. What's wrong with that question?

Coaching is fine. Hiring a coach for a specific player is a strange suggestion. I didn't hear the comment, just read it on here, so maybe it was presented differently than I read it.

Well if he said hire a coach just for Castro, then yea, that's stupid. I took it as (I didn't hear it) was just give the kid extra coaching.

Anyone listening to the Cherrington PC? Want to see if there are any subtle digs at Theo.

Lucchino pretty much credited Cherington with the Beltre signing.

He said have a coach just for Castro. He said they'd need to assign a coach just to him.

Cherington said that the agreement between the teams was that the Red Sox would get "significant" compensation. Differing opinions on the term "significant".

I've looked around online, but I can't find a video of the presser anywhere. Class was unskippable today.

Can anyone hook me up with a link?

I gotcha bra.

Thanks, but I was looking for the whole thing.

I managed to find the audio.

lol Theo and the Cubs take the high road and decline to speak in depth about the compensation issues, while the Red Sox use Cherington's PC as a forum to regain "leverage".

I'm sure the Red Sox and Cubs can work together amicably in the future but Theo's comments about their working relationship seemed a little too forced.

If purpleshirtdude reads this, I am curious as to how his sighting of Theo turned into a legitimate news article. Did he call up the Trib and give them the tip? If so, did they actually believe the dude that called and said "hey i totally saw Theo at Starbucks, I'm 99.9% sure"?

I'm wonder if Sullivan got an unconfirmed tip that Theo was in Chicago, but couldnt confirm so when he heard that story, he figured he'd be safe "hiding" behind purpleshirtdude by reporting his story of Theo in Chicago.

this is UMfan's neighbor right? i guess it's confirmed that she's theo's assistant unless he demotes her when jed comes. either way, i'd advise switching redheaded girlfriends, C.C.

I wondered the same thing today. I'm thinking if I called the Tribune with that same info, they would laugh and hang up. And rightfully so. Would love to know how that went down.

When he got on the radio with Waddle and Silvy, he said that he sent an email to Sullivan, Rogers, and Rosenbloom with subject: THEO EPSTEIN SIGHTING.

Sullivan was the one that bit.

I loved how Theo acknowledged what we did with our 2011 draft and how, even back in the Red Sox war room, our draft raised some eyebrows (in a good way).

Yes, this. That was very very cool to hear. I believe his words were along the lines of "We saw it and said 'Wow, they're really going for it this year'" or something to that effect.

I thought he was kidding. At the time, I wasn't sure. But when he posted on here, he (PSG) said that he was wearing a purple Fanta shirt. When he went on air with Waddle and Silvy, he also mentioned that it was a Fanta shirt. I'm pretty sure (but I could be wrong) that in the original report, he didn't say anything about it being a Fanta shirt (just purple).
