There are certainly more than 10 guys in the Cubs organization (majors and minors) who I'm not ok with giving up for Theo. My list probably differs wildly from WSR's (Take Rafael Dolis, please), but to say there aren't 10 guys that are property of the Cubs that you'd have issues giving up(when not necessary) is kangaroo-stab-worthy

My list wasn't neccessarily guys I would or wouldn't be willing to give up, more so a list of guys that Boston, or another team in general might be interested in in response to dave, I believe it was who said that we only had about 7 worth while guys in the organization.

In all the pictures I've seen of immigrants coming to Ellis Island on boats, who ever saw a picture of a pony??

Why would anyone leave a land filled with ponies to come to those where ponies are scarce??

If you moved to a new land would you bring a bunch or squirrels and pidgeons with you?

what's the deal with unrealistic compensation requests for executives receiving promotions and who have already been run out of town and replaced

December, 2011. Epstein is still being held hostage by the Red Sox, despite his attempts to get them to let him go.

Tom: How could they not fire you?

Theo: I never thought I'd fail at failing.

Tom: Aw, come on there, now.

Theo: I feel like I can't do anything wrong.

Come on now. Two prospects in the 6-10 range is more than fair compensation for Epstein. That's less than the Guillen-Florida deal, for a more important role.

If the Cubs get to hold onto their 5 best young MLers and 5 best prospects, we should be thrilled.

As of late yesterday afternoon, talks between the Sox and Cubs were ongoing, but nothing that could be characterized as close to finalizing the deal, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

That could and likely will change, as most deals get done once they reach the imposed deadline.

According to one major league source, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Sox also tried for young shortstop Starlin Castro.

In the meantime, the sides slowly have moved their position to a more realistic center, now trying to figure out which of the Cubs’ top prospects should be set free.

NL scout working the AZ fall league on McNutt:

“With an arm like that, [McNutt] definitely has upside,’’ said a National League scout working the Arizona Fall League, where McNutt has been playing for Mesa. “For me, he’s a project as a starter. He has a low-to-mid-90s fastball and he tries to blow it by people. He needs work on his curveball and secondary pitches.

“He could project more as a closer, but every organization is different in how they handle a kid like that.’’

The scout said that McNutt has a high ceiling, but when asked if he’s a deal-breaker, he said, “If I were the Cubs and I can get the leader of my organization, I wouldn’t make this a deal-breaker. Like I said, the kid has some upside, but there’s no telling which way he’s going to go.’’

On Vitters: He hasn’t come along as quickly as some would have hoped, but with that bat potential, you can’t give up on him,’’ the scout said.

I personally don't know the ins-and-outs of contract negotiations, especially ones to this degree. However, if the Sox cause considerable monetary loss (not to mention stalling career path growth) to an employee because they deny that employee from taking a job with the Cubs, I think that employee has litigation rights to help himself to that lost compensation. I may be wrong on that though.

Of course you're wrong. Epstein signed a contract with the Red Sox to be their GM. He can't turn around and sue them for asking him to honor that contract.

I'm not saying that the employee is entitled to some type of compensation. Merely that the employee may plead his case that he should be entitled to compensation. If that employee can prove that the decision to retain the employee was not a business decision (IE: spite), I would think there is a case there. It would be very hard to prove, but the way the Red Sox organization have been smearing Epstein, I would think there's at least a threat for litigation.

And I'm telling you there isn't.

I don't think there's anyway you possibly know that for sure off the top of your head.

Fact: Cubs season ticket waiting list was at 120,575 this morning, longer than Bozo's Circus waiting list, I think.

Guess I'm glad that I'm somewhere in the 20 thousands.

Hopefully by the time my name gets called, I'll be able to afford it.

I saw that, too. But it appears that it is indeed his hotel number. Messed up.
