Odds are he's pushing it towards a monetary resolution.

 

Which would make sense then, but I highly doubt Red Sox want money. They have no shortage of that. I'd think they'd want talent.

 

And the Cubs could be saying "tough [expletive]; either take the money or get middling talent." This isn't a done deal, but it's pretty obviously beyond the point where the Red Sox scrap everything if the Cubs are insisting they get max compensation value via money as opposed to a player or players.

 

Then the Red Sox say "[expletive] you! He's under contact and he needs to drag his ass back here!"

 

And completely torch their reputation among potential future young, talented executives who might want to join them.

 

 

I don't think Boston will ever have a problem getting a talented young exec no matter how bad they touched him.
