Don't forget his Baker-esque 'gotta play my vets' attitude during August and September.

Also don't forget how he blamed a loss on Castro after he lost a ball in the sun.

And, how he left starting pitchers in one inning too long on numerous occasions. And, how he didn't learn to pitch around Albert Pujols during key situations.

Mike Quade...good riddance and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Nice effort by Dempster tonight. Quade showed us all by letting Dempster pitch 119 pitches and get torched in a meaningless game.

But at least Dempster got his 200 IP this year.

yeah great work quade, the guy doesn't have it tonight, but better leave him in so you can give enough rest to those 20 bullpen pitchers who have spring training games starting in only 4 or 5 months.

Can't imagine a more fitting way to end this season than a 9-2 loss to the freaking Padres.

Don't forget about one of our starters being left out there too long in a meaningless game.

So, what is our draft position for next year? We have the same record as the Padres and Royals. Looks like we can be anywhere between 5th and 7th, depending on tie breakers

but yeah, screw off 2011 cubs.

6th pick next year... back to back top 10 picks with one of the largest payrolls in baseball. guessing jim hendry will leave that off his resume.

According to this post in the JAD Forum, it looks like the Cubs got the 6th pick (I'm not sure how accurate that is):

Going into the last day the Cubs are in line for the #6 pick. They "win" the tiebreakers against San Diego, Colorado, and Florida. They "lose" tiebreakers against KC and Pitt.

So if the Cubs lose and KC wins the Cubs pick 5th.

If the Cubs and KC lose the Cubs pick 6th.

If the Cubs and Pirates win the Cubs pick 7th.

If the Cubs win and the Pirates lose the Cubs pick 8th.

If teams finish tied, the tiebreaker is final record from the previous year. So KC is 5th, Cubs 6th, and San Diego 7th.

We really shouldn't be finishing the season tied with the Royals and Padres, but here we are.

Thanks, Fred.

You're like the Tom Skilling of the NSBB game threads. We might be whining about the 114th consecutive day of dry 100+ heat, but you're there to remind us that there is always a slight chance of rain.

Well done, bud! Next year IS the year.
