I went to the game last night in Citi Field and sat a few rows behind the Cubs dugout. Two thoughts:

 

1) Cashner was absolutely dealing. He was clocked consistently at 98, and a few of his fastballs touched 99. Granted, these velocities were as measured by the stadium gun (and thus, shown on the main outfield scoreboard), but still; the back-end of the Mets' lineup had literally zero chance against him. I think I remember noticing that at one point, 12 of his 14 pitches were for strikes.

 

2) Got the chance to meet Tom Ricketts last night. (Yes, he was at the game; not interviewing Brian Cashman...at least not between 7:05 and about 10:15 ET, anyway.) He took a picture with me and when I told him I was glad he was "our owner" (I was several beers in, sorry), he then assured me, "Don't worry, we're gonna get this thing turned around." Hope he's right.

gameday had cashner hitting 96 to 100. also had samardzija at 95 to 99, so the gun may have been running just a little hot, but it's definitely nice to see cashner with that kind of velocity after not pitching most of the year.
