Mike Jacobs has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for HGH.

According to Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday, Jacobs is believed to be the first North American athlete to test positive for HGH. Not something you want to be remembered for. The 30-year-old first baseman has spent the entire season with Triple-A Colorado Springs in the Rockies' organization, batting .298/.376/.534 with 23 homers, 97 RBI and a .910 OPS over 495 plate appearances. He has a .253/.313/.475 batting line and 100 home runs over parts of six seasons in the major leagues.

Subsequently:

Rockies released 1B Mike Jacobs.

Jacobs was given his release after receiving a 50-game suspension for testing positive for human growth hormone. The 30-year-old first baseman signed a minor league contract with the Rockies last December and was batting .298/.376/.534 with 23 homers, 97 RBI and a .910 OPS over 495 plate appearances with Triple-A Colorado Springs this season. He hopes to play again somewhere in 2012.

If he is released, does that mean that if he signs with another team, he has to wait 50 games before he can start playing for them?

Yep.

I believe I had this douche on my HR team last year for about 3 months until I realized he only played in like 7 games and had 1 HR.

Kind of a weird question. It's the league suspending him, not the team, so I don't know why he wouldn't have to wait the full 50 games.

I think what he may be getting at is whether the time between his release and signing with another team counts toward the 50 games, or whether the suspension must be served while he is under contract with a team.

Thats how I read the question.

And I think it is a fair point that the 50 "games" shouldn't be put on hold.

I know I'm missing something....but how is going to play in any games when he's not signed to a contract?
That's not the issue. The issue is whether games he DOESN'T play while not signed can count toward the suspension.

Are you kidding? His question was legitimate. If the dude doesn't have a contract, he can't exactly miss any games.
