So, what's up with Searle? I lost faith in the guy last year and he's coming on strong this year. He only just turned 22 and is holding his own at AA although he's walking a lot of guys. Has anyone heard any reports on how his stuff is or where his velocity is at?

Wasn't he hurt/recovering from injury most of last year?

I don't remember Searle having injury problems last season. His stuff was down last year compared to 2009.

Matt Spencer promoted to AAA. Larry Suarez up to AA with Marcus Hatley to the DL.

Chris Carpenter to the DL with an oblique strain.

Tennessee rained out.

Abner Abreu is off to a good start with the Cubs organization. Had a homer and a walk today.

he got his monthly walk in the first week of August.

When he was in daytona i heard reports of 91-95 Fastball and 80-85 breaking ball. Maybe the increased walk ratio comes with increased velocity that he lost in 2010? or possibly smaller zones in AA?

One thing that im really happy to see is, the increase in the K rate. almost 9/9 and still 2 groundball/flyball. The groundball ratio is slightly down from 2009 but the K ratio is up alot, from 116 inn/68 k.

Just found this earlier tonight

He brought up some interesting points about pitching, cant help but think maturity is key here

I think the first question probably answers why, at least, partially, that his K rate is up. It's interesting too, as I had thought for awhile that he had junked a breaking ball, but it seems like he was just trying to figure out both of them.

Thanks for that sandbergcubs. He does come off as a very intelligent baseball player. If he can develop his stuff, velocity, and accuracy, it seems he has plenty between the ears to excel as an MLB pitcher. It's nice to see a guy get back onto the radar given all the struggles the Cubs starting pitching prospects have run into this year.
