While I do believe Ozzie belongs in the hall, but does this mean that Omar Vizquel belongs as well? While Omar has 11 GGs to Ozzies 13, Omar also has a slightly better offensive line as well, and could potentially end up in the exclusive 3000 hits club, although hes probably have to stick it out for another 2+ years. Ozzie is somewhat of a household name, while to many, Omars just a guy, despite the fact that their careers are almost parrallel, in fact, it seems as though Omar was the overall better player.

Omar .272/.337/.353/.691 80 HR

Ozzie .262/.337/.328/.666 28 HR

If you're going to compare their offensive numbers, you also have to compare the eras in which they played. Smith may have had a lower OPS, but he had a higher OPS+. He also stole more bases at a higher rate of success. If you put any value in WAR, Smith was much more valuable there, too.

He (Smith) did that at a time when all that anyone really expected from their SS was defense. Visquel would have been a superstar if he had played during the late 70s early 80s. Instead his offensive numbers get compared to guys like Ripken, ARod and Jeter.

I don't think you get what I'm saying. They were fairly close as hitters, but Ozzie dwarfs Vizquel defensively. Vizquel was a very good defender for a long time. Ozzie was super ridiculous insane great defender for a long time.

yeah as much as i hate to agree with a cardinal fan who's pimping a cardinal player, ozzie smith was that good defensively. in fact, i don't know that it's possible for a guy with a mediocre hit tool and no power whatsoever to be a better player than smith was. he ran the bases well, had good speed, walked frequently (for a guy who pitchers had no reason to be afraid of), struck out rarely and bunted well.
