There's magic in the ivy and the old scoreboard.

The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score.

A world full of greed I could never want more.

The [expletive]?

I mean, I get that he's saying that he's being "greedy" in that he wants the scoreboard to be filled with Cubs hits and runs, but man...that's a tortuous lyric.

in philly they started singing "high hopes" after games - it was harry kalas' favorite song. who cares if the cubs sing it? it's fun and steve goodman was a nice guy and a huge cubs fan. opposing fans who hate it already hate the cubs and their fans, so the whole "contributes to a negative image of cubs fans" is just stupid.

nice guys finish last, like the cubs are trying to do this year. Its fun for drunk idiots from iowa and little kids. Go to disney world if you want that crap.

is this post a joke?

like i said, the phillies play "high hopes." the yankees always play that terrible cottoneye joe song and the red sox always play sweet caroline. i guess those teams don't win anything either.

i can just see dfnowak and questionmarkgrace running through the crowd after a win like the one today, screaming at happy little kids and celebrating drunk guys, "STOP SINGING YOU IDIOTS! THE TEAM IS STILL 20 GAMES BELOW .500!!!"

Than someday we'll go all the way

Granted, it doesn't flow perfectly, but the next line finishes the sentence.

It is all about the experience of the fans actually at the game. If I'm just sitting on the couch watching the game, I can hit the mute button if I don't feel like hearing it. The one game I attended this season was the May 7th game where the Cubs rallied to beat the Reds and I enjoyed singing along to the song after that win. The energy of actually being at the ballpark trumps all. That was also the first 9th inning comeback I've witnessed in person at Wrigley so yeah I had a good time. I only get out to Wrigley maybe once a year so I'm not going to feel guilty about enjoying a Cubs win regardless of their overall record.

How is that a sentence?

Yeah, that makes it even more nonsensical. If he said "than to someday go all the way," OK, but "in a world full of greed, I could never want more than someday we'll go all the way" is a "sentence" that even makes hccf cry foul.

I don't see the point in getting upset over a silly song. Baseball is fun, regardless on if the Cubs are bad or not, I say just enjoy a win however you want, even if it only puts the Cubs to 19 games under .500 .

I read it as "someday we'll go all the way" as being the thing he wanted. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the writing, was simply making sure the verse was complete.

The song makes me feel ill when I see Cub fans still singing to it.

WE SUCK THIS YEAR. STOP SINGING, YOU LOOK LIKE IDIOTS.

Thanks, I'm done.

My biggest problem with the song (ignoring that it's an awful song) is that CSN and WGN have taken to feeding the song straight through to my speakers. I liked it a lot more when you could hear it in the background at the park, and then for the chorus, all you could hear was the fans. I'd much rather hear a stadium full of people (okay, at half capacity) singing the chorus than hear the entirety of the actual version.

no, the people sitting there pouting about people singing and having fun at a [expletive] baseball game are the ones who look like idiots.

I [expletive] love hearing "Go Cubs Go". Sure it's a cheesy song but who the F really cares besides a few miserable pricks? The "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" crap needs to go away like Amy Winehouse, though.

Hah! This is serious? Because of course it is.

The people complaining about "Go Cubs Go" being cheesy and terrible or whatever clearly don't get it.

It was never meant to be some complex and brilliant timeless masterpiece, people.

It was meant to be whimsical and fun and, yes, even cheesy. Mission accomplished.

If you're too stuffy and bourgeois to enjoy something so uncultured for what it is, then what are you doing at a baseball game in the first place. Go to the opera or the art institute instead.
