Hi, Alfonso, my name is Bob. Welcome to the bench for not hustling. Next?

You really think Brenly or any other manager is going to bench Soriano for (allegedly) not hustling? Did you quit paying attention to baseball in little league? Who else would they put out there?

This thread is going places thanks to Getting there.

Seriously though, you aren't gonna win over anyone on this board with comments such as those.

Bob Brenly had in Arizona:

a) a top 2-3 pitcher of the past 30 years anchoring his staff (we have Matt Garza)

b) a top 25 pitcher of the last 20 years as his #2 (we have Ryan Dempster)

c) a 57-HR season out of Luis Gonzalez (we have Carlos Pena with 19)

d) the only blown save Mariano Rivera has had in the World Series

to thank for his success.

Aramis would end up beating Brenly to death within the first month of his hire if the lazy Aramis comments from the both are any indication of how Brenly would handle things.

Answer the question. Are you saying hustling does not help win games? I mean, you did say that, right?

It was all the hustling and respect that he inspired that made Rivera blow that save.

Or maybe he was scared of the bunts they might drop down.

All I know is that Bob Brenly angrily glared across the diamond at a young Alfonso Soriano after he hit a home run off of Curt Schilling that seemingly gave the Yankees the series and declared "[expletive] YOU, SLACKER."

71 bunts and 81 errors for the 2001 Dbacks. Solid on defense and fundamentals.

So 71 free outs? Good for him

71 free outs and a world series title. I will take it.

Damn, you're pretty demanding for a guy that thinks a ton of bunts are important.

Are you also taking Schilling, Johnson and a 'roided-up Gonzalez? Because he'd need those guys to replicate his fluke ring.

Hmm....good point I guess. Jesus

Johnson and Schillings pitching and Luis Gonzalez turning into Barry Freaking Bonds had way more to do with that season than Brenly giving away 71 outs during one of the most offensive (scoring wise) seasons in history. If anything Brenly cost them runs, and possibly wins, by bunting that much.

Seriously, is this a joke account?

Two headed monster in the pitching staff and a superstar year from an outfielder. Meet the 2001 DBACKS and 2003 Cubs.

If only they had had Brenly to put them over the top.

That question was not for you. I said sound baseball is important.

Sound baseball is important, yes. Things like hitting the baseball, throwing the baseball and catching the baseball. Running really hard on a grounder to 1B or a popup to 3B isn't.

Most managers are bad, so I really don't care. Some are REALLY bad, like Dusty, but they key is having a good GM/FO to construct a good team that can succeed regardless of who the manager is. Give me a manager that can make a non-insane lineup and knows how to use the bullpen and that's it.

I said what this team is lacking is not more hustle. A lack of hustle is not why this team sucks and why this team has performed so underwhelmingly throughout the Jim Hendry era. The reason this team isn't good is because Jim Hendry is a bad GM. It is not because they lack a manager who will bench Soriano.

But you keep only mentioning bunts when it comes to "sound baseball." Why are bunts so important to you?

For years and years, the Cubs have been an all or nothing team. If they can't hit the long ball, they lose. Plain and simple. How about execution? How about hustle? How about getting them on, getting them over and getting them in? I have seen this team blow more scoring chances that ultimately costs them games because they absolutely REFUSE to do the little things.

You don't want Brenly? Fine. I have no problem with him. You haven't even said why you do not like him.
