Marmol doesn't seem very unhittable anymore. His numbers overall look ok but just doesn't have that presence he's had in the past. Sucks.

Is it just me or has Hollandsworth really improved over the past couple seasons? He is relatively tolerable in the booth.

He has the same problem that Plesac did when he was in the booth, I think, which is that he's not saying anything particularly egregious, it's just that he keeps talking and talking and talking.

What exactly is a "Michael McKenry"?

Maybe Im just overreacting here, but I'm starting to think that this might not be the year.

You are being so dramatic giving up on the season with 70+ games left!

Hollandsworth isn't tolerable until he learns to shut up after the first sentence. He makes some okay points and brings some decent insights, but then beats them to death. After Pena bunted in the 9th, I hit mute and then unmuted when Soto walked up, a decent 20 - 30 seconds and he was still in the same sentence.

Who is the color guy for the Pirates? He seems to really hate the Cubs, or maybe he's just bad and that's why he's calling Pirate games.

Radio or TV ?

TV

Bob Walk. Greg Brown is the play by play. Unless I'm confusing them. Which is possible - they're equally annoying.

Root Sports is the new broadcaster, taking over from Fox sports, and all of the announcers seem to be more Rah Rah this season. (Same guys as last year)

I was never a fan of walk and brown, and this year I like them even less.

Why does he seem to hate the Cubs?

He's like this against any opponent. Mostly, I tune these guys out. The rotation is such that the play by play guys switch between radio and TV one night, the color guys the next night. Tim Neveret (sp?) is the other play by play guy, he's descent. Steve Blass does color at home games, The Rock (Whener) does color on the road. Brown and Walk are the only combo I can't stand.

You know, for a minute, I thought we were going to win. I'm so glad I don't expect this team to win any games, though. It makes the losses easier to take.

Well, that sucked

More Pirates fans and less Cubs fan than I've ever seen in that park tonight.

Thoughts:

1. Quade's gotta go - no excuse for Lopez to hit in the 6th or Marmol to come in before the 9th

2. 10 LOB - speaks for itself... thanks DeWitt

3. Marmol throwing an 0-2 meatball to a AAA backup catcher... unreal. Pitch should not have been near the strike zone.

I fully expect a 1-0 pitcher's duel loss tomorrow. Wish i didn't care this much.

and this is indeed the most disgusting display of baseball play by play I have ever heard http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_07_08_chnmlb_pitmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=chc#/play?content_id=16769411

Yeah why do you care so much? I'm not saying its not cool to follow the team when its this bad, but getting upset over individual games in a lost season seems rather pointless in the grand scheme of things.

Please elaborate.

The Kasper/Hollandsworth call of the Barney single through short is the "most disgusting display of baseball play by play [you] have ever heard"?

Stupid links... obviously meant the McKay (or whatever his name is) homer

Being at the game (only 3 games I'll attend for who knows how long) doesn't help. Wouldn't care as much watching on TV.

On which?

1. Lopez wasn't gonna get through 6 without allowing another run... I'd rather go with Samardzija in the 6th and take my chances with DeWitt at the dish to add an insurance run

2. Marmol's looked very hittable lately and the last thing you want to do to your overstressed closer is bring him into a stressful spot. (Giving up hits to back to back rookies is all on Marmol, but Quade should have left Marmol in or brought in a different righty to finish the 8th)

Last night was a bad idea, but it was also the first time he had started in the 8th on no rest. A quick scan shows Marmol has been brought into the 8th 7 times, 1 time on no rest(last night), 1 time on 1 days rest, 3 times on two days rest, 1 time on 3 days rest, and 1 time on 4 days rest. Even after being used back to back nights, he's on pace for fewer appearances and IP than any year since '07. I'm all for trading him before his arm explodes, though, whether he's being used for 2 innings at a time or not.

Just two weeks ago he went 2 innings throwing 32 pitches the day after a full 20 pitch 9th. He came out for a multi innings outing his next time and followed up with another no rest game. He isn't getting a lot of save opportunities but Quade is still finding ways to use him recklessly.

My bad, I missed that one since it was the 10th and 11th innings.
