See you tomorrow Mr. Carpenter.

They will just bring up Ortiz for now.

Theyll probably bring Carpenter for Mateo, because hes the best relief option, and the only way theyd be able to bring him back so soon is by DLing someone, so my guess is that they call up Carpenter for Mateo, and then Ortiz comes up for Coleman.

Don't forget Quade's disturbing handling of Stevens earlier this season (90+ pitches).

Yeah, this isn't exactly a shock. If they want to rid themselves of Quade along with whatever else they do this offseason, so be it.

Yeah I admit I may be over-reacting but THIS is the kind of thing that makes me cringe when I read posts saying "why get rid of Quade in-season. it doesn't matter." I had a similar reaction when peeps were arguing about dumping Dusty his final season. I think it clearly does matter even if Mateo/Stevens aren't exactly key pieces to the organization going forward. Then again, Quade also bumbled the use of Garza earlier this season as well. JMO.

Holy [expletive], how did I miss this?

It is kind of amazing how off quade has been handling our pitching staff. mateo and stevens are two examples. his in game management, when to pull a pitcher has been very suspect as well.

Forgot about Stevens until CR mentioned it and I didn't even see the Mateo thing until this thread since I was at work during the game and I didn't look at the box score. I just saw that Z left the game after an inning and assumed he used a bunch of relievers for 1-2 innings each. It's also kind of odd that after using Mateo for five innings, he didn't bring Samardzija back after only an inning in which he threw just 10 pitches.

I've not seen arguments that firing Quade (or a manager) in-season is pointless. In most cases it may be, but if a team is still in contention despite the manager or if the manager is needlessly endangering pitchers, then there's ample reason to make a midseason move.

Just out of curiosity, what is the case against Brenley as manager? I know that during the hunt for manager, alot of people were very against hiring him. Aside from the 2001 World Series, I never followed his managerial career, so I dont know what was to like or not like about the manager. Considering the lack of obvious options, aside from Bobby V, I dont see why we dont pluck Bob from the booth and tell him if it doesnt work out, hes welcome back up there.

He has a very traditional mindset and is a big fan of small ball principles - meaning we'd likely see a relatively large amount of sac bunts/steal attempts/etc. He also appears to buy into the myths of Aramis being lazy, Z being a headcase being a huge negative, gritty, terrible baseball players are awesome, that kind of stuff.

Similar arguments to those against Ryno managing this year.

I actually think Len is rubbing off on him a little bit, as he doesn't espouse those ideas with nearly the frequency that he used to.

That said, it's not a great indication of what he'd do at the helm. Pretty much guaranteed that he'd revert back to his previous managerial style and run into outs and praise grit above all.

Since dropping EI I've only been able to watch a handful of games and one of those was with Hawk and Stone, so I haven't heard much of Brenly this year. Len is definitely significantly more progressive, though, and it'd seem that mentality would rub off on Brenly as long as they've been working together.
