I don't necessarily disagree, but he probably would have been alright had he been given the opportunity to work out of his slump. Of course by "alright" I mean fairly average, if that.

By sending Colvin down, I think it shows that Cubs management still has him in their plans and want him to get everyday at-bats so he doesn't get completely ruined. That is a good thing.

Hopefully, Hendry brings up Campana, Montanez, or Snyder for the last outfield spot. They're all playing well at Iowa right now. Leave DeWitt in the infield.

How would he have gottent the oportunity? Byrd and Fukudome have been doing well in CF and RF, and Johnson has been very good as the 5th outfielder. Colvin was buried at the end of the bench, and hes far better off playing everyday in Iowa.

Makes sense. He wasn't getting ABs as it is. He'll be back when Fukudome goes on his annual June swoon.

Considering his annual hot start and the fact that the Cubs are going nowhere fast, could this be a prime time to sell high?

I think that it should be one of the power guys like Montanez or Snyder. What we need is a power bat, and guys like that tend to come up slugging before pitchers figure out their obvious holes, and which point we can trade em in for the next one. We really dont need a guy who will be nothing more than an 8th inning defensive replacement for Soriano.

For those who know, what kind of ceiling does Campana have? Is he a 4th or 5th OF only in the future or is there a possibility he could be more (maybe a marginal CF starter as long as he's cheap)?

i thought you were trying to kick that late 20s AAAA fetish.

I'm curious how/when he gave you reason to believe that.

All the options are in their late 20's. Its just do we want a guy who might be able to hit or a spare set of legs to fill in for Soriano in the 8th inning? If were going to call up a guy to get very limited PT, may as well be a slugger.

Like Tyler Colvin?

Yup. And he sure as hell came out swinging before pitchers started figuring him out. The differrnce is, Colvin still could be a part of the Cubs future plans, so he should be playing everyday and the rest of these guys likely aren't. Similar could be said about DeWitt. If Aramis leaves, there's a very real chance he could be our starting 3B next year, or at least platooning with Baker.

Signing Bradley was probably too much to hope for.

maybe if you're the type that likes rooting for car wrecks to occur.

Aren't the Cubs about entertainment?

Trade Fuk or Byrd now if possible, the Tigers are looking for OF help and the Cubs are not going anywhere.

Seconded

Thirded. Plus if Jackson is still doing well come middle of summer it will be easier to fit him into the OF. Even though I don't want his arbitration clock starting while still probably having to learn/adjust and the team going nowhere....

While to us, it might seem like a good iden unless a teams like 12 games back, rarely will you see major pieces shed in may. In mid June, if were in the same position, which is likely, were more likely to see a move like that. I agree that Detroit would be a good fit for Byrd or Fukudome, and I'm thinking that The Angels may well be interested in Pena.

Think of him as Augie Ojeda with more walks and outfield experience and without the ability to play SS.
