Assuming he goes on the DL for the groin injury, it has to be Castillo that gets called up right? If that is the case I think he needs to see the majority of the playing time ahead of Hill.

If Quade is an idiot, he'll give Hill the majority of the playing time, in which case, if Hill really cares about this team, he'll saw off a few more fingers.

Well you made me spew soda all over the place, that truely made me laugh.

If he doesn't start 80% of the games, Quade needs to be fired on the spot.

And then tar and feathered.

So far Quade has impressed me with his reluctance to give Hill playing time. I would be happy if it is just 50/50 while Soto is out considering the past management.

If Castillo tears it up is Soto trade bait for a top starter in the off season?

More likely that Castillo is trade bait. Depending on what you consider a top starter, I don't think that Soto would land us such a creature. More likely a Jake Westbrook type.

I disagree, soto has shown that he really cant stay healthy for a whole season for like three years in a row now. If Castillo tears it up soto could definitely be a trade candidate this year or in the offseason.

Unless Geo's out for most of the season, that would be a huge overreaction. Even if Castillo hits extremely well, we're only going to see him for 2-3 weeks or maybe a month tops. That's not enough time to determine that he's a better option than a 28 year old catcher who we know will OPS .830+ with good defense.

What is Castillo's ceiling? Does he project to be as good as Geo has been (or at least close to)? If so, wouldn't this be a good opportunity to trade Geo while his value is high to bring up a less expensive alternative since it doesn't appear the Cubs are going anywhere this year, especially if the $$ the Cubs save making a move like this helps toward netitng them a front line 1st baseman?

Soto's value probably isn't all that high right now.

There's no way that I would trade Soto, but the Red Sox might offer a king's ransom for him.

Whether that's true or not, if its to be considered, wed need to see what Castillos capable of, and Quade doesn't seem to want to do that. Wed also need more than the sample size we'll likely get out of Castillo anyway.

One of the more minor league-knowledgeable guys can tell you more, but from what I've heard/read Castillo has the ceiling to be similar to Soto defensively, but probably won't hit nearly as well as Soto has. He's more of a defensive specialist kind of catcher, as are pretty much all of the our minor league catchers.

Soto profiled as that as well when he was in the minors until he broke out with a huge offensive year in AAA and has been good since.

the red sox already gave up a king's ransom for adrian gonzalez, i don't think they have a king's ransom left in their system.
