Someone please tell Quade he's allowed to move Soriano up in the order and then drop him back down when he starts slumping later.

Also, keeping Byrd lower in the order until he starts hitting.

Someone please tell Quade he's allowed to move Soriano up in the order and then drop him back down when he starts slumping later.

Only problem is Soriano also is not doing well. Now 5 for his last 32 and sporting a .235 batting average and getting on base at a .258 clip.

He's still a better run producer right now than Byrd and Pena. Wouldn't be opposed to something like this at all:

Fukudome

Castro

Aramis

Soto

Soriano

Pena

Barney

Byrd

Until Pena heats up.

Ryan Theriot (.716) has a higher OPS than Marlon Byrd (.696) this season in two fewer ab's (90 v. 92). We had no problem shipping Theriot's ass out last season when Starlin was tearing it up in AA, I hope the Cubs aren't scared to do the same with B. Jackson and Byrd at some point this season.

except that didn't happen. they moved theriot to 2B.

I guess I worded that poorly. They had no problem moving Theriot off his position for a young piece of the future because Theriot was playing like garbage, then eventually dumped him in part because Starlin was holding down the fort at SS. I wasn't trying to say the Cubs should just dump Byrd now and call up Jackson, but trying to say they shouldn't be afraid to do something similar with Jackson and Byrd like the did with Castro and Theriot last year. If middle/end of May comes and Byrd still isn't producing anything on offense they better not be scared to call Jackson up and start playing him in CF close to full time and make Byrd the 4/5 OF until they can trade him around the deadline.

There's really no reason to rush Jackson. Sure, if he's just ripping it in the minors and Byrd still sucks and we're deep into the summer but the Cubs are actually in it, OK. Otherwise Byrd is only here 1 more year and is very affordable. Might as well play him if he can bounce back and wait until September to bring up Jackson and then trade Byrd in the offseason (unless a team is really coveting him before the deadline).
