4/26 Cubs (Russell) vs Rockies (De La Rosa) 7:05 WGN

No pictures because I'm lazy.

The Cubs have been playing poorly, and really need to get it together and start a winning streak. I had a 9-game winning streak in 2008 starting the game threads... something I hope to duplicate here.

Barney had his first homer last night, and Fukudome had 5 hits, but 4 errors did them in.

Win, Cubs.

If the Cubs win tonight, tomorrow's game threads will have pictures, complete with a gorilla giving the finger.

Barf. They should have called up Jackson from Iowa as hes pitching today. I know this is his second game back, but still, Id rather the potential of 4-6 solid innings from Jax than the promise of 2-4 disasterous innings from Russell.

I dunno. As someone who still views JJax as a legit prospect for a mid-back of rotation guy, I'd like to let him stretch out for at least one more game. That said, he's thrown 3 scoreless so far in Iowa this morning.

I don't understand anyone not viewing him as a legit prospect. He's only 23 and was cruising along last year until they sarted flip flopping him between the rotation and the pen.

As well they should. Still doesn't mean he should have been pitching tonight.

I'm trying to think of a busier sports Tuesday for an all-4-major sports Chicago fan.

I'm coming up dry.

I'll catch portions of this one, somehow.

The way both baseball teams are playing, I think it will be somewhat of a no brainer. Hell, a lot of people with tickets to the Cubs game may very well chose to hang out at a Wrigleyville bar and catch the Hawks and Bulls. If only I was a hockey and/or basketball fan.

Agreed, but even if they called up one of the Iowa junkballers, I'd would probably be better thank another Russell debackle. All those starts do is tax the entire bullpen, and with Coleman tomorrow, we'll likely need them tomorrow. I'm very unhappy with Quade for sticking with this experiment for as long as he has. Even if we called on Ortiz, Diamond, or Mathes wed have a better chance.

Possibly, but it's time to take Diamond off that list.

Unbelievable. I cannot understand on any level how Quade ever came to the conclusion that Byrd should bat #3. And hey, give Fukudome the day off after going 5-5!

To be fair, at least about Fukudome, De La Rosa is a lefty and he's probably just playing the matchups to avoid the Fukucopter. How is De La Rosa against lefties?

The Byrd thing I'm with you, though. That's inexcusable.

It's becoming harder and harder to be optimstic about Quade. Was he this bad last year, too, or were we all just so glad to be rid of Lou that we didn't notice?

Also, Paul Sullivan tweets that the wind is blowing straight out to left.

Remember when Baker used to do this as a sort of "reward"?

Seriously, though, what has Byrd done to deserve even momentary consideration as a 3 hitter?

Vs. Mediocre lefties, Baker and Johnson are basically a decent 3 and 5, so Quade may as well play them that way ,

I posted Fukudome's 2010 numbers to show that sitting him when he's as hot as he is out of some fear that "he can't hit lefties" is ridiculous.

Here are De La Rosa's numbers against LH hitters:

.240 .326 .359 .685

Here are Fukudome's numbers against lefties in 2008:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=fukudko01&year=2008&t=b#plato::none

The idea that he has to sit against them came from how bad he was against them in 2009. In 2008 and 2010 he was at least serviceable, and when he's on a tear like this he should be out there.

Fukudome should be starting today.

Not to disagree (because I don't), but the wind is blowing straight out to left, so that's probably why he's going all-righty tonight.

With as sluggish as their power has been seems like it would be smarter to hedge your bets and get the guy getting on base at an insane clip in there. But this IS Quade we're talking about...

You'd think, but you gotta figure he'd be first off the bench against a RH reliever in a PH situation. Because, you know, that would be "playing the odds" and stuff.

Ideally, but then I remember the other day when he let a shaky at best Dempster bat in the bottom of the 5th with the bases loaded and a RH pitcher on the mound and Fukudome sitting on the bench.

Yes. That was a huge WTF moment for me. It was clear that Demp was gassed, and then the next inning he gave up 3 runs.
