I just noticed that we have holds listed as a pitching category but the point amount is zero. What's that about?

There are some stats that show up in live scoring that make it appear that we have each stat count as points for each player/team. We don't have singles, doubles, triples and home runs set up to collect points, either. It's set up as total bases only. I'm not sure why it tells us why someone got a hold when it isn't actually a stat. But, I do like seeing that someone got a double or a triple, etc...

We don't offer up points for holds at this time, but I would think that could go up for discussion again at some point. There are 30 major league teams. There are typically 30 major league closers. We have 16 Roadkill managers, and 32 reliever spots. It's a problem when a closer can collect points that a reliever can't, yet there aren't enough closers to go around.

We award points for saves, but we don't take away points when they blow a save. To make it more fair, I think you offer points for saves, but take away points for blown saves, and maybe offer up at least a point for a hold. And then you create a third reliever spot. Someone can still gobble up all the closers, but the not so very good closers may not be nearly as valuable as a good set up guy who tallies up holds.

Like I said, it's worth discussion. I don't really like it very much as it currently stands, and I have 2 pretty good closers.

I'm looking at the actual league details though, not live scoring.

I think this would be a great issue to bring back up after the season. Expand to three RP and add points for holds and have points taken away for blown saves.

It might be that we did at one time award points/take away points for holds and blown saves. I just don't remember. Maybe Juan just changed it to zero instead of unclick the box. I don't know or remember what the old commish tools pages looked like before the latest upgrade, so maybe it was more noticeable to just change the points to zero than to unmark the box to count points.

I fixed it for blown saves and holds to no longer show.

Maybe something along the lines of a point awarded for holds, minus one point for a blown save, and maybe minus 3 points for a blown save loss.

Would probably want to do a case study on what that does to closers vs. non closers over a full season. You probably still want closers to be worth more than your typical set up man/reliever.

I personally think holds are a stupid, meaningless stat that shouldn't count for anything.

Of course, I think saves are also a stupid, meaningless stat that shouldn't count for anything. It's like game-winning RBIs. Based more on opportunity and circumstance than ability.

It's not just holds. Wins and quality starts show up on your team's stats too. I know we don't count wins, and I don't think we count quality starts (in my opinion a totally meaningless stat as it currently stands) either.

that's a lot of stats. RsBi are just a consequence of who's on base (except for home runs). hit a triple with the bases loaded, 3 RsBI. hit a triple with the bases empty, 0.

alright, Logan Morrison is on his way to the DL - do I need to wait until he's officially there? He's on crutches, so know it's imminent. I had picked up Sam Fuld earlier today and dropped Marco Scutaro (go figure). Wanted to be sure to do the right thing...probably won't help a darn this week, anyhow, as Matt Cain was uncharacteristically sucky and Carl Pavano had his every 3rd week meltdown. Won't be able to catch Tim, especially with LoMo out, but wanted to give it a try. Let me know if I'm good to swap Fuld for LoMo or if I've gotta wait?

Thx much - think all this AZ sun is getting to me :)

Until he's on the DL, you can't place him there. You can put LoMo on your bench and pick someone up to replace him/or promote someone from the bench to replace him provided your roster stays legal. Then, when he goes on the DL, you can place him there and pick someone else up to take his bench spot.

Or if there is no one you wish to drop, you'll have to tough it out until he's officially DL'd. He'll probably be DL'd before games start tomorrow, which gives you plenty of time to pick someone up before games tomorrow.

Back to Vegas for a week starting this Saturday. I broke down and bought some WiFi for my lap top, and I should have internet access while I'm gone. But, it will still be quite limited, because I just don't expect to be in my room that much. :hello:

I just got back Sunday night and still haven't recovered. 14 hours of drinking on Saturday may be the cause though.

considering that each of your starting pitchers is putting up 40 point games against me, i don't think you have much to worry about.

My starting pitchers need to put up 40 point games to make up for the fact that I have Carlos Pena playing first base and that my closers are taking the entire week off.

How many points would Carlos Pena have on the season if we didn't count walks? 9.5

After the high score of week one, my team has decided to take a vacation. No pitching, no hitting period. I hope this is just a phase. I do not want a repeat of last year. :banghead:

54 point lead and even in starts. My two remaining starts are Hamels @ SD and Wolf vs HOU. My opponents are E.Santana vs BOS and Westbrook vs CIN coming off a -19pt start.

I feel pretty good about going 3-0.

A.Hill missed his second game and had an MRI on his leg. Replaced in lineup with Lowrie.

Is this allowed? Hill is still day to day and hasn't been DL'ed. i guess as long as you didn't put hill on injured to add lowrie, right?

Posted

you can take injured guys out of your lineup midweek and replace them with someone from your bench. or a free agent actually.

you just can't put them on the DL unless they are actually on the DL.

I'm the only 0-3 team in the league. :(

I actually had a good week scoring (6th highest point total of the week), but I was against the team with the second highest score.
