If a shooter is what the Bulls need right now, Bogans should get at least 30 minutes a game going forward, unless Korver gets hot.

But a shooter isn't what they need. They need someone else who can create with the ball in his hands.

Nobody is talking about [expletive] Bogans when they say the Bulls need a shooter.

The team is certainly not a disaster and, if everything remains constant, a shooting guard upgrade might be enough... The problem is that everything won't remain constant. Miami is only going to get better, so I'm not convinced that one star plus a bunch of solid players will be able to complete with two stars plus Bosh and quality veteran role-players that fill their current holes.

why is miami going to get much better? lebron, wade and bosh are basically at the peak of their careers right now. the supporting cast blows, but unless they luck into some awesome late draft picks they're not going improve much. they don't have the cap room to go out and sign anyone really good; it'll just be the mike millers and mike bibbys of the world rotating through as their supporting cast.

Under the current salary cap structure, I believe the Heat would get a Mid Level Exception that would allow them to go out and sign a quality big man, then continue to fill out the rest of their roster with Millers and Bibbys who want to take less money to play for a championship team.

They need a shooting guard who can do both to take the pressure of Rose. Korver is a pure "shooter" and we all see how that is working out.

Like I said before, ultimately this is a good learning experience for a young team. Yeah, it sucks to flame out like this, but these are the kind of things that the Bulls, Rose especially, need to experience and learn how to overcome in the future.

Well I hate to break it to you, but Kieth ended the season at 38% from 3 and is shooting 45% from 3 from the playoffs. One would think that would be effective if thats all you needed from your SG. The problem is that Kieth can't do anything else.

Unrestricted free agents for the Heat after this season:

Mike Bibby

Erick Dampier

Eddie House (P)

Juwan Howard

Zydrunas Ilgauskas (P)

James Jones (P)

Jamaal Magloire

I understand we haven't seen most of these guys this series outside of Bibby, but they rode a lot of those guys through the regular season. They're going to have to get somebody to take those minutes. And if even one of their big three has a serious injury, they become a completely different team.

Also, I think people forget that Wade is going to be 30 years old next January, and he's had some pretty major surgeries on his shoulder and knee. I don't know how many years he can keep this up.

i don't see what quality big man is going to settle for the MLE. i guess they can get someone like shaq who is miles past his prime, it's not like they can just go out and grab a very good center with the MLE. plus i think the way they're set up now is fine... what's the point in adding another scoring option at center? you've already got three primary scorers plus complementary shooters in bibby/miller. all they really need from center is a guy who can defend and grab a few boards.

Agreed. They obviously need a good balance. Brewer in theory could create with the ball, but you say a Hail Mary every time he takes a shot past 10 feet.

While you can't put an exact number on it, I'd say that assuming the SG is able to create and at least play a team defensive scheme, he merely needs to be a Derrick Rose level 3pt shooter, essentially around 1/3 of his threes. We don't need another Korver.

yeah but Bogans takes like 4 shots a game so percentages don't really matter.

But part of the reason he doesn't get more shots a game is because he isn't a threat to do anything else. If all you can do it shoot, its easier to shut down.

And not a single one of those players will really be missed in the playoffs. I can't imagine the replacements being any worse than most of those guys, and most likely they will at least get some marginal improvements.

It shouldn't be hard for a team like that to get a few good MLEs, a la the 2004 Lakers with Karl Malone and Gary Payton (they weren't both MLEs but they took drastic pay cuts to play with Shaq and Kobe).

The one thing you can hope for is that Wade breaks down.

I think it would be easier and more feasible to land Howard while retaining your defensive approach, then it would be to sign a worthy SG who could create, shoot and defend. An OJ Mayo type of player is not going to push this team over the edge.

Just watched the game on DVR.

I still can't fathom why DRose didn't drive to the basket with 8 seconds left and the game tied. Force them into fouling.

That was the game.

It would have taken an absolute mauling for him to draw a foul there. He probably had a better chance to sink the fadeaway jumper than he would have to go to the basket 1 on 5.

why? the refs are actually an advantage in that sitution if youre a superstar

I'm trying not to sound like I'm whining about how the refs treat Rose, but he has tried the 'go into the paint out of control and pinball through guys' thing a lot in the playoffs and he hasn't gotten the whistle most of the time. No reason to see if they'd do it in a late-game situation where it's been shown that refs don't like to call fouls.

That play should have been a pass. Both Deng and Korver were absolutely wide open for jumpers.

At least go for the floater. A fadeaway 17 footer is not what you want.

There was an open lane toward the basket.

That's not on Rose. That's on Thibs for not figuring out another option with LeBron defending Rose. That's a bad matchup for Rose and you have to go somewhere else. I was thinking that as it happened and Legler said the same thing post game.

And I like Rose's chances driving by LeBron better than his chances shooting on him.

The most disappointing thing about this series is the fact that Rose has managed to make his MVP season look horrible. He cant sink a shot outside of a dunk/layup. I just hope this wont damage his psyche.
