if you're a sixers fan you should be offended that these boobs are using Saint Allen's name as a pejorative to defend rajon [expletive] rondo

iverson was a chucker, everyone knows that. of course, when you play on a team with supporting "stars" like theo ratliff, aaron mckie, tyrone hill, george lynch, keith van horn, an obese derrick coleman and a 75 year old dikembe mutombo, can you really blame him? who else on those teams was going to create any offense?

Right, I'm on board with that.

There have not been 5 more talented humans that have ever touched a basketball than Allen Iverson.

Who compared Rondo to Iverson? Rose has been playing like Iverson except he actually has a supporting cast.

The main difference between Iverson and the Bulls fans ITT's normal objects of scorn is that his prime coincided with the Bulls being [expletive] terrible so they don't have an irrational hatred of him.

Another key difference: Iverson was way, way better and it's an insult to the sport of basketball to compare the two

I'm not so sure. Really tough to compare the two since they are polar opposites. But Iverson was a career 41% shooter averaging 6 assists. I'm not a huge fan of Rondo either, but he has a ring. He's a good creator and a good defender. Does Boston win a championship with Iverson instead of Rondo? I'm not so sure.

I don't understand why anyone would hate Iverson.

He was an absolute joy to watch and carried absolute dreck supporting casts way farther than they had any business going. It literally saddens me that his name can be used to demean another player. It's a god damned compliment of the highest order.

also lol @ Ron Artest

What? Of course they do. Rondo in '08 was pretty mediocre.

lol, no.

I think we can plausibly argue that the 08 Celtics with the 2000 version of AI would've been contenders right? Can you plausibly argue that putting Rondo on the 2000 Sixers instead of AI is a plausible contender? Does that team even win 20 games?

AI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rondo

it's hard to say what iverson would have been like in his prime on a good team. he always forced up bad shots because there were no other options. he had complete dregs on his team and always had to do everything (offensively) himself. it would have been nice to see him on a real team.

(that has been one of the really annoying things about the sixers the last 20 years, having two terrific players - iverson and barkley - and surrounding them with absolute trash.)

We're gonna go ahead and ignore how pathetic the Eastern Conference was back then? They beat the Bucks (IN 7) in the ECF. The Bucks 4 and 5 positions? Manned by Jason Caffey, Scott Williams, Mark Pope, and Ervin Johnson.

OK. You guys are right. 08 Rondo was mediocre. 09 Rondo nearly averaged a triple double in the playoffs.

Still, I'm no Iverson fan. Classic scorer who didn't do much else. Exciting to watch, yes. But I'm not impressed at averaging 30 points shooting 40%.

I'd still take Rondo in his prime over Iverson in his prime. Iverson was one of those guys who didn't make anyone on his team better and could score by putting up a ton of shots. I'd compare this debate to Hinrich vs. Ben Gordon. A lot of people said Gordon. I always said Hinrich.

[expletive], look at that Raptors team they beat in the semis. It's Vince Carter, old trash, and young trash. Corliss Williamson started 31 games for them that season!!

It's hard to believe now but VC was decisively ahead of Kobe in the "next MJ" debate back then

I remember, but that series was basically 2 really good players and their trash teammates going at it. Doesn't say a lot for AI (Plus, Mutumbo was still pretty decent at the time.

I don't think its right to call his teams total trash. A guy who shoots 40% doesn't take a crappy team to the NBA finals. Jamal Crawford and Jalen Rose put up respectable point totals on crappy Bulls teams shooting 40%. Give me an example of a guy who shot 40% on a bad team who significantly improved on a better team. And give me an example of a guy who improved his assist total by a lot once he moved to a better team.

i have no idea. give me another example of small point guard who shot the ball a lot, played on lousy teams for most of his career, then got traded when he was well past his prime. we can do some case studies then.

He's the only reason the Lakers didn't go 15-0 in the 2001 playoffs. 48 points (18-41 shooting, 3-8 threes and 9-9 FTs) plus five steals, six assists and five rebounds in Game 1. I'll never forget when he sank a jumper late in that game which pretty much locked up the win for Philly and then just stepped over Tyronn Lue.

EDIT: Just watched the video and the stepover was right in front of the Laker bench also.

i remember in middle school my friend's favorite player was iverson and i was always jordan/bulls, so he'd constantly give me [expletive] foriverson crossing over jordan like that. he also would say "jordan cheats on his wife" and then i'd say something about a chair in a bowling alley.
