Lost on a walk to adam everett, stolen base, sac bunt, and a suicide squeeze.

Then McDonald got thrown out overrunning second base on a ball IN THE INFIELD.

Not gonna lie, motherfucking glorious.

How many teams have started off 0-5 and even made the playoffs?

Probably the same amount as teams that have lost on 5 straight Wednesdays or some other arbitrary crap like that.

I heard on the radio that 3 teams have done it. The Rays were one, and the Red Sox themselves might have been another, but I"m not sure.

2, apparently ('74 Pirates and '95 Reds). That potentially seems way, way too low to actually mean anything.

Well, if there is any team this year that this really shouldn't have any bearing on, it is this Red Sox team.

Undoubtedly though, they need a big series win this weekend. They also have the Rays next, which should give them another couple of easy victories.

They're just setting us up for the biggest Kurkjian meaningless stats orgasm ever in September.

0-6 now.

ok well NOW its over.

It's an interesting question....how long would this streak have to go before rational people started saying ....maybe this is a legit problem. 0-10? 0-15?

Well, the 1982 Atlanta Braves had an 11-game losing streak and still made the playoffs. At that point, there's probably cause for some more serious concern.

To win 100 games in a year, a team has to win 61.7% of their games. After the start they've had, playing at a 62% pace for the remainder of the season would win them 96 games. So it's not completely detrimental yet. After an 0-11 start, playing at a 62% pace would win them 93 games overall. That may not be enough to make the playoffs (although, the Rays are in nearly the same position).

A streaks a streak. Remember when the 2010 White Sox went on that 10 gamer, leading people to believe they were something other than a mediocre baseball team that got fat off the Pirates, Nationals, and Cubs?

According to BP's Playoff Odds/projections, Boston is still projected to finish with the best record in the majors as of this morning. Just by about 2 fewer wins than projected at the year's outset.

Tampa, on the other hand, is not looking good.

As expected when you lose Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, Evan Longoria to the DL, and replace them with the ghosts of Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez. Gotta love that young pitching though.

The Brewers started the season 13-0 back in 1987 and they were 19-3 to start May. By the end of May they were 24-21. On July 8th they lost putting them at 40-41. Then in a strange development they went 50-30 the rest of the way to win 91 games.

This was a team that wasn't supposed to be good, won 13 straight, managed to blow it all and still win 91. Baseball is a strange game and I wouldn't be worried at all about a bad 6 games on the road to start the season.

I think they ought to panic and make a 46 player trade (23 from each side except SS and closer) with the Cubs while paying the difference in payroll. If that's too difficult, they should panic into a deal of Gonzalez, Pedroia, and Crawford for Pena, DeWitt, and Soriano. :yahoo:

The Red Sox will bounce back. This is no different than a 5-game losing streak in July.

who do you think you're kidding

An unusually realistic trade idea from you.

i knew tampa would take a step back but didn't think they'd be bad. their pitching is still really strong. guess their offense royally sucks without longoria though.

Damon and Manny are combining for about 1/8th of Castro's OPS

I forgot that we need to keep Soto too.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Rays are only the second team since 1900 (joining the 1992 Tigers) to start 0-6 without having a lead in any game.
