Thanks for answering. I'll just assume he is a legend in Illini mind only then.

Cal wanted him to come to Kentucky to help with recruiting.

the illini have a bunch of 4-star guys all over their roster and the best pg and sg in the state (as juniors in a stacked class) coming in in 2013. big whoop, you don't see us talking much about it.

That was all we heard about for the last 4 years.

seriously

Like sulley said, that's why Weber is about to lose his job.

we can't all get jay simpson-level recruits

What's wrong with Jay Simpson? Hopefully his career will be as bad against Illinois as LewJack's was.

there is no problem with jay simpson, he is a perfectly cromulent player.

I figured it was recruiting related, thanks. I have to question his smarts though if he didn't take Coach Cal up on that offer.

He graduated from here. We are his dream job.

I get that, and respect it. Good for him.

But there is no comparison out there to that offer, alma mater or not.

 right because you say so. Maybe he doesn't wanna be left in the wreckage Cal leaves when he leaves a program?

Leonard averages 20-10 vs Iowa, and they call him soft.

That's what I love about Iowa fans. Give them an inch of success and they get cocky/mouthy as hell. Growing up amidst that is what has made me hate Iowa so.

Well Iowa fans are the only fans of any team that do this.

Basically, prior to Howard, the best recruiting talent Weber could land was Jamar Smith and Chester Frazier. However, those teams also overperformed. So, Howard is bringing in fantastic talent, but Weber hasn't been able to use it well.

Hopes are that a new coach and a new offensive scheme that actually utilizes the talent would be a good thing, and Howard would continue to facilitate that talent rolling in, instead of watching it leave for Duke/UNC/Kentucky/Kansas all the time.

An offensive scheme of any kind would be an improvement. It's hard to overstate just how ridiculously bad Weber's offensive "scheme" was, especially this year. It was tragic comedy to watch. Coaches often relieve an unfair percentage of blame assigned for failure, but in this case the reverse might be true.

And if Howard stays and we hire a coach that recruit, well, so much the better.

He left kentucky in the first place to take the illinois job and we paid him a ton to keep him.

I am probably more bitter about this as an Illini fan who grew up just outside of Iowa City. Every year I had to hear about how Iowa was better than Illinois (which they almost never were, and that was when Iowa wasn't terrible), how Iowa's failures were always due to some bizarre or unfair circumstances or how Iowa was about to become a national power. Every uptick in success was the sign of an impending meteoric rise, or so I was incessantly told.

Yeah, fans of many teams to this, but our experiences, biases and hatreds are purely subjective. Mine are very subjective. Taking that into account, I think Iowa fans might want to temper the bravado a bit, at least until they look something better than hot garbage for more than half a season.

You guys look to be on the upturn, but I wouldn't pencil the team in for a top half finish next year, just as I wouldn't write the Illini off as a bottom half team in 2012-13.

Minnesota just showed the world why you always want to shoot a buzzer beater in a tie ballgame.

They screwed it up twice and got away with it.

I think Hawkeyecub is just trying to get a rise out of you.

Anyways, I just want Iowa to return to Tom Davis levels of success which is pretty much be a tourny team more often than not and maybe every once in a while compete for a conference championship, something that is possible in a few years with some good recruits as Iowa has really never had anything higher than a 3 star and should have won the conference in 05-06. I'm excited that Iowa basketball has a chance to mean something again.

Mizzou would do the world a favor by making sure this is that gd twerp Keiton Page's last game ever.

Can't wait until that turd graduates. I'm sure he's hiding another year of eligibility somewhere.

Objectively I want the Hawks to do well. It'd be good for the conference, the state, and it would breathe life into what had become an utterly one sided rivalry.

But subjectively I want to see the Hawkeyes get crushed every time they step on the court and I want to hear the pitiful, wailing lamentations of the people over it.

That sums up how I feel about IU.
