This team is really good. Good starting pitching. A lot of low WHIP, high K guys (Verlander, Greinke, Haren), which is always good. Won't do much in SVs though. OF is actually pretty weak, IMO, and in a 5 OF league (which is insane FWIW) you got 3 really good ones and Markakis who should be back to being pretty good with the lineup surrounding him now.

A lot of power on that team. Any team w/ Pujols is legit. Bench is weak though you don't have any huge injury concerns to worry about. I don't think Latos repeats his 2010, but he should still be pretty decent. Pitching should be good enough.

I don't understand why you'd do a 6 team mixed league set up. Why not just do AL or NL only?

Erik, I think your team is pretty decent, but you were even worse than I am about drafting to potential instead of results. My not-even-close-to-expert opinion says you're at the back end of the playoffs with a little good fortune from the young guys.

My auction strategy was all messed up though. I bid heavy early and was an active early bidder, then was pretty much inactive for a good hour or so (except for artificially driving up the price of some guys I knew would be in demand), then jumped on guys like Hudson, Z, Cuddyer etc at the end. I got each of those guys for a buck because everyone else was tapped out. But, i finished with money left over so that tells me I could have picked up another solid player or paid a little more for a superstar. But, live and learn.

Let this be a lesson: Do some mock drafts.

Yeah, it can be hard sticking to an auction strategy. Especially when you're going against guys who haven't done it before. In my case, I really wanted Longoria since I wasn't a big fan of the other 3B options. Well, turns out one of our guys didn't make the draft and somehow had player ranked his way into super inflated values, and bought each of the first 4-5 guys at insanely high prices, including Longoria. It's hard to be disciplined when you're watching the best players go off the board and you don't have anyone yet. I finished with about 10% of my draft budget still available, but I was okay with it because I could pretty much dictate who I wanted for the last 10 "rounds" or so, since everyone else was down to $1-$3 a spot.

Yeah that was pretty much my last rounds, too. I was like the Yankees and bought anyone I wanted.

I like my offense quite a bit, including the bench. Between those guys I should be able to adjust my lineup to get whatever I need a bit more of that week. The way my league set up pitching seems weird. I opted to try to go for a middle of the road pitching staff with some solid but uninspiring guys to balance a couple upside guys. I don't think I'll do much better than split pitching categories most weeks, so I'm relying on my offense to make me a playoff team. Hopefully they come through... this is the first year my friends and I are doing a money league.

The first couple years of auction drafts, I tended to target just 1 or 2 more high priced guys early, but ignore the real top picks like Pujols and HRam. In 10-12 team leagues, if you had the patience for it, you'd start seeing amazing value in the $12-15 range when other teams have blown most of their budget or started freaking out that they had $100 left and only 4 spots filled. It's a little more difficult now that more people have experience with it.

But I don't think walking away with a few bucks is an indication that you should have spent more. Hopefully it means that since you didn't wildly overpay for a bunch of guys, you were able to get several guys at very good prices. That said, if you walk away with $50 and don't have any top talent, you probably have the wrong strategy.

10 team, H2H

C - Russell Martin

3B - Evan Longoria

SS - Hanley Ramirez

2B/SS - Starlin Castro

1B/3B - Adam Dunn

OF - BJ Upton

OF - Ichiro Suzuki

OF - Carlos Beltran

OF - Jason Kubel

OF - Sam Fuld

UTIL - Buster Posey

BENCH - Freddy Sanchez

BENCH - Johnny Damon

BENCH - Chipper Jones/Casey McGehee (I have to get rid of one of them right now to make room for Longoria coming off the DL)

SP - CC Sabathia

SP - Josh Beckett

SP - Carlos Zambrano

SP - Matt Cain

SP - John Danks

SP - Matt Garza

RP - Carlos Marmol

RP - Jonathan Papelbon

My outfield doesn't hit for much power, but overall I think it's a solid team. I have a few guys who I haven't gotten any production out of yet who are generally safe bets like Longoria, Hanley Ramirez and Dunn. I think once those guys get back to their normal production, I'll be pretty gravy.
