Sounds like Mallett had a horrible day yesterday during the interviews.

Actually, he did horrible addressing the media, but reports are that he impressed teams during interviews.

I saw the interview, and aside from repeatedly saying he wasn't going to talk about the allegations and such, I don't get what was so punkish about it. He wasn't especially savvy, but I don't see how it would rub anybody so incredibly wrong. I mean, yeah, I guess they'd want him to address the character concerns, but the media isn't going to draft him. It actually sounds similar to--yet a lot less arrogant than--some things a certain other former Michigan quarterback said around draft time...

This is not me being a homer, either. It's just something I have an issue with. The media gets on these amateur psychology kicks with players, and it bugs me because they can be hyper judgmental, but rarely consistent. See: Cutler is a quitter, Aramis doesn't care and never dives for balls, etc. If it's somebody they like, for whatever reason, the exact same demeanor can be projected as a positive. I've seen reviews of Cam Newton's performance describing him during the combine as "confident and assertive' and other as "arrogant and aloof."

Julio Jones needs foot surgery. Which means he ran a 4.39 on an injured foot. No real details about the injury...what it is or when it occurred.

UTCs Buster Skrine ran a 4.29 40 today - the fastest of the combine. Amazingly, that's still 5/100ths of a second slower than CJ ran (4.24).

Any thoughts on where Skrine might go? A safety that fast is really intriguing.

Won't matter cuz he'll get drafted before Bears get to pick in the first round because Raiders will draft him (Al Davis loves those speed demons)...

Raiders don't have a first rounder this year. They traded it to New England for Richard Seymour.

Well then.... Bears better get him in the first round then cuz Raiders will get him in the 2nd. LOL Does anybody have any info on Skrine? Honestly never heard of the guy.

Wes Bunting has him as the 25th rated CB in the draft - prior to his Combine workout, however.

CB Buster Skrine: UT Chattanooga

In what was a pretty poor cornerback crop at the NFLPA game last week, Skrine was the one guy who really opened my eyes. He was patient/compact in his drop, showcased good balance and body control getting out of his breaks and was able to keep his base down when asked to redirect in space. Plus, at 5-10 he’s got good enough size and has the kind of frame that can continue to fill out and get stronger as he matures in the NFL. After this week I think worst case scenario he’s now a priority free agent who will be able to compete for a roster spot and depending on how well he runs at his pro day could end up warranting a later-round pick.

Apparently his official time was slower (I originally thought the 4.29 was his official time as it was the only one being reported even after other official times had come out), however. He's still a guy I'd be pretty interested in the Titans looking at late in the draft to develop behind Chris Hope and Michael Griffin.

NFP mock draft part 2:

1. Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

It’s rare to find a quarterback with Newton’s physical skill set, and in a quarterback- driven league I have a tough time seeing the Panthers go in any other direction other than a signal caller.

He has the Titans taking Patrick Peterson at 8. No way he falls that far, but I cannot express how happy I'd be on draft day if the Titans got Peterson.

Yeah, I've seen a couple mocks with Peterson going #1 now.

I have actually convinced myself that I want the Cowboys to trade up to get Peterson, but I would be hard pressed spending a #1 overall pick on a CB. I don't know why considering some of the most valuable defensive players in the league are CB's too.

I'd rather get Amukamara at 9 than trade up to get Peterson if I'm the Cowboys. Peterson's clearly the better player, but not so much better that it's worth giving up picks/players for.

Of course, not 100% sure Prince will be there at 9.

I think Prince is the way they will be going and my prefered pick based on need. Right now I am pretty lost as to how this draft is going to shape out. There really is no concensus on any of the top 10 picks, everyone seems to have a range of +/-2 slots based on the avg Mock Draft.

No clear #1 will do that to a draft. I think Von Miller to Arizona at 5 is the safest bet in the draft.

So they're completely giving up on Claussen already?

If Peterson drops to 6-7, I could see the Cowboys moving up to get him. I've heard rumors that he sits atop the Cowboys' draft board.

I can see us getting a QB but I'd still be rather surprised if it's Newton. I'm hearing that Ron Rivera likes him but I haven't heard any mention of him meeting with the team at the combine or anywhere else.

A lot of media types are down on Clausen because he wasn't good last year and he's apparently a jerk. I want to see him with some talent around him (more than an aging Steve Smith and a declining running game) before I write him off.

The Panthers' GM did say QB is the team's clear #1 need, however, so they may have written Clausen off.

Assuming Peterson and Von Miller aren't there at 8 (very, very safe assumption), my top two hopefuls are Robert Quinn and Prince. A CB group of Finnegan/Prince/ATV would be really good to go along with Hope and Griffin.

Having Derrick Morgan and Robert Quinn rushing off the edge would be pretty awesome as well.

Maybe you can go for Plaxico too!

Interesting post-combine draft rumors. Some nuggets:

Following the Combine, the word I received from a number of scouts is that because of his workout, Alabama’s Julio Jones now likely will be the number one overall wideout off the board over Georgia’s A.J. Green.
Even with the rise of Alabama DT Marcell Dareus, all the scouts I have talked with still think Auburn DT Nick Fairley is the better NFL prospect.
The more scouts I discuss Auburn QB Cam Newton with the more they are afraid of not only his off the field character, but the overall posse he could ultimately end up coming into the league with. They raised the concern of just how committed to football he will be and who in his camp could ultimately keep him distracted from developing.
