Waiver Wire Week 3:

DivineBovine
 Share

Thoughts on possible waiver wire pickups! I need help at receiver and have good waiver position this week.

WR:

Kevin Walter HOU: Big game. Is there enough points to go around after Andre Johnson?

Darius Heyward-Bey OAK: Ready to live up to the hype ie McFadden?

Demaryius Thomas DEN: Stepping up as a rookie?

RB: who doesn't need another one? slim pickings in my league

Jason Snelling ATL: is he going to get the ball?

John Kuhn GB: ditto

Chester Taylor: can he get enough receptions to make it worth my while in a ppr league?

I've decided I'm putting in a claim on Demaryius Thomas. First round pick. Looked real good in his first game back. If healthy, I think he could clearly be Denver's #1 target.

My second claim will be for Walter.

I'm not sold on any RB yet. My only issue is I need 1 more RB for my bye week, when 2 of my 3 off.

And I'm definitely dumping my kicker and picking up Robbie Gould. Nice to see him available. The Fred Funk of NFL kickers. His ball doesn't curve!

I'm also putting in a claim for Thomas, dropping Gaffney.

I am debating dropping Jake Delhomme and picking up Bruce Gradkowski for a backup QB. I am in a 12 team league that starts 2 QBs, so only 8/12 teams have true backup starting QBs on their team. So while I know Gradkowski would be a much better option at QB, I am not sure if I should drop a guaranteed starting QB for one that hasn't officially been named starter. Any thoughts?

Also, if I lose the claim on Thomas, I'm thinking of picking up either Heyward-Bey or Tolbert. I know Tolbert is a RB but are there any better WR options you'd recommend?

Great minds think alike! I'm also trying to drop Gaffney for Thomas.

I also put in a claim on Tolbert. Who knows how banged up Ryan Matthews is, and frankly he hasn't shown much when he's been healthy. The problem is that teams don't like to give up on their early first round picks, so I'm sure Matthews will continue to get the bulk of carries if healthy. But at the very least, Tolbert could end up being a great TD vulture.

If Donald Brown is available in your league, that's another guy to consider. A first round pick that the team is invested in. He got a lot of carries this past weekend. He's not available in my league.

I don't know about Gradkowski. I was listening to something on the radio yesterday of how Al Davis edited Tom Cable's post game remarks about Gradkowski and his potential to start. It's a risk.

I'm probably going to drop Favre in one of my leagues. Is that silly?

I just picked up Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez is still available. I currently am carrying too many QBs with three – Favre, Palmer, Ryan. I'm thinking about cutting Favre after starting him against Detroit and then picking up Sanchez. Then, when we either hit bye weeks or when I start getting injuries, I'll cut one or two of my QBs.

I would hang onto Favre for now. Sanchez is not good (despite last week).

So I've been hanging onto Vincent Jackson in both of my leagues. Time to cut him loose after he didn't get traded by the deadline today?

Not a waiver wire move, but I was just offered (and accepted) and trade in which I get Tony Romo and send Josh Freeman. I feel like that is a steal, Romo has put up decent games yardage wise but just hasn't been able to get the TD's Freeman doesn't have all that strong of a supporting cast even though points wise he has been slightly better than Romo so far. I now have a nice QB rotation of Eli and Romo every week which I really like.

I am in an 8 team league that starts 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, and a W/R position. Currently my Qb's are McNabb and Flaco, while another guy has Peyton Manning, Schaub, and Vick. Im interested in trading for 1 of Schaub or Vick, but not sure what a fair trade would be. This guy just lost Reggie Bush Monday night, and has Ochocinco/Knox as starting WR's and Steven Jackson/Ronnie Brown as starting RB's with no WR's on his bench and Spiller as his other RB on bench. Obviously he could use some help at Rb and/or WR.

My RB's and WR's

Colston

Desean Jackson

MJD

McFadden

Dez Bryant

Tomlinson

DeAngelo Williams

Nicks

Harvin

Hightower

So out of my RB's/WR's what would be a fair trade for Schaub or Vick. Is offering DeAngleo/Harvin too much? Too little? Oh and this is just a standard scoring league, no PPR or PPC. Thanks for the help

Yeah, I'm not much of a Sanchez fan either, but here's the reason for considering cutting Favre: upcoming schedule - bye, Jets, Cowboys, Packers, Patriots, Cardinals, Bears, Packers. At most, I could see starting him twice in that stretch (Cards and Bears).

Comparatively, here's Sanchez's upcoming schedule: Miami, Buffalo, Minnesota, Denver, bye, Green Bay, Detroit, Cleveland. Many more favorable matchups for Sanchez than for Favre, plus Minny's receivers have been bad, while Sanchez will get Holmes back soon.

Ryan and Palmer will probably get every, or nearly every, start for the next 4-5 or more weeks anyway. My biggest apprehension with cutting Favre is that the best QB in the history of the game could still appear.

I'd probably keep him unless there was a better option out there or until you need to cut him. I'm hanging onto Reggie Bush in a league just because I don't need that roster spot and there's nobody worth picking up at the moment. I don't know how long he'll be out now, but if they agree to a deal at some point soon, you'd have a pretty good receiver available.

You don't think you could get anything at all in a trade for Favre? Even if it is a 3rd string WR or something, it seems better than the potential of dropping him for nothing then someone picking him up and beating you in the playoffs with him.

That's a thought. He might net something at least mediocre just off of name value, even though he's been pretty awful so far. I'm hoping he has a (somewhat) big game against Detroit Sunday, so I may try trading him around it.
