Playoffs

I'll be setting up the playoff schedules later this evening.

Please note that no trades are allowed until the season has come to a complete finish. Your players will continue accruing points towards the cap until the regular season is over, so you can't determine your cap totals until the regular season is over. Therefore, it's recommended that you do not make any roster changes before then.

Good luck to all the playoff teams! All rules for playoffs are basically the same. Since I don't believe there is a tie breaking procedure for playoff matches, in the event of a tie, the team with the most regular season points will win the tiebreaker.

It looks clear now.

In the West, NSBB gets the 1st round bye and will play the winner of Alamo and Fuzzy.

In the East, the Dealers get the 1st round bye and will play the winner of Sanitizers and Rodelo.

I have 8 players with red crosses, so hopefully the next week can allow me to find a shortstop and align my pitching for the week after.

Damn tiebreakers.

Question is how well Kuroda does tonight. Shane only went with six starters this week even though Kuroda is pitching right now. I don't think it's possible for him to score enough points to overtake me at this point, but if he does, I'd say you should get in with the bye.

If you remember, in one of our head-to-head matchups this season, I lost to you by less than 3 points and I only had 6 starters. Very frustrating.

A bit unlucky for me in regards to the standings. 4th overall in points, yet tied for 6th in overall record. Only 2 teams got more points scored against them overall. Not as unlucky as Bazinga, but still not so lucky.

Now I have to try to win without Johan Santana this week. Ugh. He was originally scheduled for 2 starts, and now may not pitch at all. Bringing up Carlos Carrasco to scramble for a 7th start. Ugh again. Oh well.

FYI, I dropped Leo Nunez (injured and demoted) and picked up Hong-Chih Kuo.

My team is pretty beat up and slumping. Hopefully the pitching can carry me.

I'm on the other side. I have 10 starts this week - I just know I'll somehow screw this up and pick the wrong starts.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm back from Durango. I looked a the regular season meetings for my team against all the playoff teams and I think my team won 1 and lost 5. My only win was the shortened all star week against Deven's team. I'd say the odds weren't very good for my team going into this.

Fuzzy math. I was actually 1 win and 6 losses against the playoff teams.

A question for you playoff veteran teams. With the final week being 2 weeks, I'd like to clear up just what is allowed and what isn't for the championship round.

Roster changes from week 1 to week 2- Are they allowed or do you just simply treat it as one long week?

Pitching limits- Must it be 7 per week or is it a total of 14, however you get them?

Can't really think of anything else at the moment. Just want to resolve any potential concerns before the championship starts. Thanks in advance for your help!

That is a good question. I haven't made the finals in a long time, so I don't know the answers to those questions; though it looks like I need to know as well.

BTW, Jake Arrieta was shut down by the O's but not disabled. He has no use as a reserve for me, but I have 3 injured players already. Is anyone opposed to me adding him as a 4th injured player so I can pick up someone who can be useful ?

I have a problem with it, and I can easily imagine the rest of the league having a problem with it. I have Johan Santana sitting on my reserve list and he's already had surgery. I haven't moved him to the DL because my DL is currently full.

The reason other managers are going to disapprove is because it allows you to have more players to pick from for fitting below the cap than they get. They aren't allowed to add players and break roster restriction rules at this time, so we can't either. Either dump a reserve and leave him there or dump an injured reserve player and place him there.

If I don't hear from some of the former playoff teams regarding playoff rules for the 2 weeks, I'll just assume that it's a 7 start limit each week and roster changes will be allowed for week 2, and basically just treat this match up like two separate weeks of play, except for totaling up the two weeks to determine the champion. I'd appreciate a response before the championship starts.

The question as it was presented the first time, was whether we can just do 14 starts regardless of which week they happen and whether the roster must stay the same for both full weeks.

Brian, that's how it works. It's 7 starts/week. I would agree with you too regarding Jake. That wouldn't be fair to other owners.

Thanks for the quick responses. Actually, I just went through last year's championship thread and Adam posed the same question. He was fine either way, and NC seemed to believe that it's one long week, so do your starts however you want.

I tend to lean towards NC's thoughts. Mainly because the last week of the season, a lot of guys get shut down or pulled out of starts early to get ready for playoffs or to juggle their starts around, etc...

So I'm going to make an executive decision and just say that you can match up your 14 starts however you want and we will treat this as one really long week. My executive decision does hinge on Deven approving as well. If Deven is opposed, we can do it the other way. Neither way really benefits me. I only have 6 starts in week 1, but I might only get that many in week 2 also with Oswalt and Sabathia both potentially missing their last start to get in line for playoffs.

No problem. I just wanted to make sure before doing something that violated a rule. I dropped Yunel Escobar and picked up Westbrook. Hopefully the Pirates and Cubs are just what he needs.

I agree - 14 starts however you get them. As I am going on vacation starting Wed and through the rest of the championship, I may designate someone to keep track of my team, sub-in and out pitchers, etc.

I haven't actually looked to see if you have this week's match locked up, so I'm assuming you are as comfortable as I that the match up is basically set. Apologies to those teams we are still competing against.

If the match up does end up being Fuzzy vs. Dealers, I wish your team the best of luck.

I'm pretty confident. The Dealers are up by over 100.

Same to you. It should be a good contest. The biggest challenge will be what teams do with their pitching rotations with respect to the playoffs.
