Keep it. My 3yo loves it. It's his favorite part of Cubs games. Just like he looks forward to the "do do-do-do" song after Hawks goals. (Chelsea Dagger for those that don't speak 3yo language.)

And the stretch singing? Talk about the epitome of the stereotype of the Cubs fan that doesn't care about the game and just wants to get hammered at Wrigley.

I remember my dad teaching me the words to "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" and how we had fun singing it together at the games as a kid. It was a great moment. Hell, we sang it together 3 times in May when the Cubs came to Arlington and he is 79 and I am 37. Neither of us fit your supposed stereotype.

The stretch stuff needs to be more about the fans at the game, IMO. Whether that's Santo all the time, or people of actual significance instead of D-list celebrities, it doesn't matter to me. If they stop letting people on there who just want to shill their latest work, it would be 100% more tolerable. Line up 50 former players and coaches and let Santo/Bob fill in the blanks. You don't have Marc Anthony talking about whatever he's doing or Brian Kelly swearing they won't lose to a service academy, and it's more of a tradition and part of the atmosphere of Wrigley.

That's a personal tradition not beholden to the Cubs. They weren't the first team to sing "Take Me Out...", they're not the only team to do so, and they're not the last. Harry wasn't the first announcer to do so and and he didn't even start it with the Cubs, so again I ask: what the hell is so "sacred" about it that he needs to be saved from the disrespect of celebrities showing up to sing it? He'll, you're making my point for me; so long as the crowd is singing it, who cares is conducting it? It's not some classic or exclusive tradition to the Cubs.

The celebrity singers are in charge of leading Cub fans in singing. As such I think fans would prefer to be led by fellow Cub fans in singing not by someone with no affiliation to the Cubs. And to extend that I think alot of fans feel it is a privledge to sing at a Cubs game and should be bestowed only upon fellow Cub fans.

Find a nice pre-stroke recording of Harry doing the stretch and play that. Problem solved.

And how long does that go on? I don't want to be the Yankees trotting out Bob Shepard's corpse after he's gone. I really don't care much one way or another about the stretch, but I think it'd be pretty absurd to have a guy who's been dead for 60 years "leading" the crowd in the seventh inning stretch.

I have to agree. I don't think using a recording of Harry is the way to go. They do it at the Chiefs games and I'm not a fan.

Well, that's just silly.

How so?

Because it's bordering on delusional. It's not "the Cubs' song," it doesn't belong to the fans and it's not a privilege.

Maybe some people are claiming it as a Cubs tradition, but I am not. I want them to end the "celebrity" singers because most of them are God awful. I'm sick of seeing a parade of idiots come through to promote whatever they are promoting when I am trying to watch a baseball game. Pick an announcer, it doesn't have to be Santo since you hate him like you hate Cubs fans, and let him do it every day. Hughes, Brenly, Kaspar, any of them. Just end this stupidity already. It's been over 12 years since Harry died.

I don't understand how they're "God awful." Compared to who? Harry couldn't sing. Santo can't sing. Len and Bob can't sing. And hell, it's hilarious when you get someone up there who is even worse than usual or, even better, screws it up. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about; shouldn't it be about fun? The crowd can still sing, and we're entertained by someone who sings it poorly or messes it up. Expecting more is turning it into something bigger than it actually is.

I've said it before, but the inteviews in the bottom of the seventh are far worse than the actual singing.

I really hate fans that think the Cubs are only about them. Sing any and every song they want. It's not about just you. Whatever makes people love the Cubs more is okay. If you think a song is annoying and makes you like a team less it just means you aren't really a fan. Just shut up and enjoy the team. If it means more fans go to the game and spend more money than be happy. Sheesh.

Lots of things annoy me. But oh well.

Win some damn games and suddenly that song starts to sound better. I've definitely noticed that.

Oh man, I love those, especially when the inning drags and Len basically has to give them the boot.

I mean, really, if they're going to let Reagan in to the booth then everyone else is automatically an upgrade.

If you are going to get rid of that song..

then PLEASE stop the guest conducting the 7th inning stretch...

it had its place..now just play a recording of Harry....

The guest conductor was a nice homage the year Harry died, but it should have ended then.

Agreed. Give it to Ronny if you want to continue to have an announcer do it, or just have the organist do it. But I'm tired of seeing D-list schlubs promoting some crappy movie or something who probably couldn't name 2 guys on the team.

What does owning the song have to do with anything? We are talking about leading Cub fans in singing at Wrigley Field. It has nothing to do with who created the song or owns the song or first used the song. It has to do with the event itself and not just the song.
