Not sure where this belongs and I don't think it needs its own thread, but I have a question about Andrew Cashner.

Was there a reason that he was a reliever in college? Did he have any injury history or were the starters on that team that much better than him, or was it just the best fit for the team?

He was a relief pitcher for only one year with TCU; prior to that he was a starter at his JC (or it may have been his CC?). As a starter, his stuff wasn't particularly impressive for whatever reason. However, TCU moved him to the bullpen and made him their closer, which worked out pretty well for him since his stuff improved dramatically.

This isn't Cubs related, and I didn't want to start a thread for it... but has anyone noticed the numbers that J.P. Arencibia is putting up right now in AAA?

.321/.374/.673/1.046 28HR 71RBI

He's hit 19 homers and 42 RBI in his last 34 games. I was just checking up on the stats for some of the minor leaguers on my dynasty team and he's one of them and I was shocked at how well he was doing.

Just to add, when a JC/CC kid transfers to a major college program as a junior, it's not surprising that he wouldn't start. Typically the big programs will have a couple of established guys already on the team. since college teams don't play 7 games a week like in the minors and only need a couple of starters, it would take both a really impressive transfer pitcher as well as some vulnerability in the rotation to get a starting spot.

hak-ju lee has a triple and homer and it's only the second inning. go for the cycle kid!

Lee is really starting to turn it on. Hes a fun kid to watch play, I just hope he keeps up the progress, because a middle infield of Lee/Castro could be really really fun to watch.

Strong outing out of Brooks Raley. Would have been better if he didn't lose his shutout in the 6th. He really has come on strong of late.

7 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 0 bb, 8 k. would assume he's done.

another guy who's been throwing well lately is nick struck. 6 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 2 bb, 6 k tonight, probably done as well. the last four games he's thrown 6 innings each outing (24 overall) with 13 h, 2 r, 4 bb, 22 k.

he's 4-5 now, having tacked on a pair of singles. they have at least 6 ABs left and he's #8, so they need a couple more baserunners for him to get up with a shot at the cycle. it's 9-0 so he should just hit the ball, put his head down and run to second no matter what.

leverton finished it off for raley, going two innings with a pair of hits and a run allowed. he's been much better in relief this year than he was when he was starting the last two years. gotta like that GO/FO ratio (better than 3:1) and the k rate is up too. wasn't he discussed as a possible LOOGY?

samardzija's overall numbers are all right but his command still blows: 4.0 ip, 4 h, 2 r, 1 er, 3 bb, 5 k, 41 strikes/35 balls. he started against old friend rich harden, who's allowed 6 runs and has an ERA of 9.00 at AAA (iowa beat him up over the weekend too). ouch.

lee wussed out in the 9th inning and walked.

Since I was the guy that said he has been disappointing since being drafted, I gotta give credit where it's due. Very nice outing today from Raley.

Kirk has thrown 9 scoreless now, including 4 today. :)

Call out more Cubs prospects, please.

I was listening to the radio, I forget if it ws this morning or this afternoon before the game, and someone suggested getting rid of Theriot and bringing Hak all the way up to the big leagues. I cant see that happening, but I think its interesting. It was one of the analysts too, not some goofball caller.

If he was seriously suggesting it, then he's a goofball analyst.

I like this increase in Ks from Struck all of a sudden.

Another solid start by Samardzjia: 5 IP 2 R 1 ER 3 BB 6 K

And who is Corey Martin, appartently 2009s 27th round/830th pick, and how did he leapfrog everyone on earth from Peoria to Iowa? Looking at his numbers, he wasnt very good at Peoria to begin with.

Meh, not really that solid. He still cant throw strikes consistently and thats always been a problem.
