All-Star thread

Snubs? Obviously Joey Votto has been mentioned, but what about Miguel Olivo, catcher for the Rockies? .308/.365/.540/.905, 132 OPS+, 11 HR, 39 RBI, 6 2B, 5 3B and has caught 51% of would be base stealers. Instead, the NL gets Molina and his paltry .616 OPS.

Despite it being absolutely idiotic, Molina gets in based on his name and his defensive reputation. I'm not surprised by that, even though he deserves 0% of it. But the Omar Infante nod is a [expletive] joke. If Atlanta fans stuffed the box for his name, they all should be taken out back and shot. The NL is really over the top now that they got a guy with 164AB who has started 35 games this season to his name on their roster. Nice work, Atlanta fans. Real nice work. Way to give the NL the best possible odds of winning.

So that's Charlie Manuel's doing? WTF is he thinking?!?!?!?!?!

I thought reserves were the runners up to the first place vote getters.

This ASG will be more of a joke this year than most. Votto has got to be one o the biggest snubs I've ever seen. Alex Rios and Konerko got snubbed pretty hard too, along with Youkilis and Mat Latos. Lots of really bad decisions this year.

I'm sure Votto will get in eventually. There are always guys who bow out of the ASG to heal some nagging injuries or whatnot.

not that I care about the White Sox, but Im very surprised that Matt Thornton was their lone All Star while Paul Konerko with his 20 HR, .297 .avg and .950 OPS is stuck waiting for the final vote.

what the [expletive], paul konerko has 20 hr? i hate this season

I still think Olivo is the greater snub than Votto considering his position and his competition. The NL is only carrying 2 catchers but the AL has 3.

From a team standpoint, it makes more sense to have three catchers than to have four 1st basemen. Instead of carrying three 3rd basemen he should have just had two (Rolen and Wright) and therefore been able to add Olivo as 3rd catcher. There really isn't much sense in bitching about Molina since he was a fan vote and not Manuel's. Still...

Olivo vs. Molina

.308/.365/.540

.231/.310/.306

I didn't even notice Jered Weaver got snubbed too. 2.82 era, 8-3 record, 1.06 WHIP and he leads all of baseball in SO. There's just no way Bud can be seeing this and thinking the current system is successful. If they're going to allow this to continue then the game needs to be played as an exhibition with nothing on the line.

That would require Bud to (a) admit he was wrong, and (b) grow a sack. Neither is likely to happen anytime soon.

im sure this has been mentioned a million times, but it would simplify this process so much if they just made sure the host team had a representative instead of all teams.
