Rays no hit AGAIN

If anything, the rarity of this one is the guy who threw the no-hitter was the second best pitcher of the night.

I'll disagree with this one. Jackson had a much higher game score.

That's because he pitched the extra 1 2/3 of an inning and that hits are penalized two points in the game score while walks are just one. Niemann also allowed the HR.

Jackson walked eight guys and hit another but gave up no hits (0.000 BABIP) while Niemann walked only two and gave up six hits (.294 BABIP). Niemann's BABIP allowed was right about normal while Jackson benefitted from a great deal of luck (as do most pitchers who throw no-hitters). Assuming normal luck, Niemann still allows the eight baserunners through 7 1/3 but Jackson would be expected to allow seven hits to go along with the eight walks and one HBP - 16 baserunners in all.

Jackson's line was better and he has the higher game score due to luck on balls in play but Niemann was the more effective pitcher and on most nights, Niemann's line would have ended up looking far better.
