Before the season I was trying to convince someone that the White Sox would suck this year. They countered with "They'll be better than the Cubs." I agreed wholeheartedly.

But count me on board with "if they're going to be bad, I want them to be really bad" mindset. I want Ricketts to clean house.

I'm with you regular bad just isn't enough with the cubs. We need crazy bad for Ricketts to clean house. I really think almost everyone scouts on up needs to be fired. Keep Wilkens, Jaramillo, Sandberg, maybe a few others and let everyone else go. This organization does a lot of things the wrong ways from top to bottom and this is the perfect opportunity to fix it.

Also we need to get rid of that stupid go cubs go song. Its bush league. Any team that needs to play a song for the fans to sing after a win is a team that isn't used to winning often. You don't see the Red Sox, Braves, or Yankees doing this.

The Yankees play New York New York after every win, I believe the Red Sox play (or least used to play) Shipping up to Boston after every win and the Braves play the tomahawk chop every 20 [expletive] seconds.

New York New York is a classic. Shipping up to Boston kicks expletive. No offense to Steve Goodman (RIP and stuff) but Go Cubs Go is not a classic and it does not kick expletive. If you have to play a song, it should not make you more of a laughingstock.

In retrospect, this team should've been dismantled immediately after the 08 playoffs. Its championship window was slammed shut that day.

But if we kept DeRosa, it wouldve stayed open another 5 years.

Wasn't the OPs argument, he said it was bush league to play a song to celebrate a win.

And it'd be really [expletive] stupid to blow up a team that won 98 games because they sucked in the playoffs.

And normally, you'd be right about dismantling a 98 win team. All I remember is feeling like I got hit by a truck and wondering what the [expletive] was the point of having a really good team if they were just going to get [expletive]-slapped in the playoffs every year. I can't even imagine what the players felt like.

We're allowed to feel like that cause we're fans. I don't want our front office acting in such a reactive manner.

I like Doug Glanville's writing. He's the exception to the dumb jock rule. I think Z tirade got a blown out of proportion by Lou and the media. I think Z was wrong and apologies are in order, but like Lilly said, these things are best handled behind closed doors.

All the Cubs have done is kill whatever trade value Z has left after his poor performances this year. If they think they're teaching an almost 30 year old man a life lesson they are mistaken.

That is a good thing. I would rather see if the light workload this year will help him be more effective going into next year. There is no way, even before the incident, that Hendry would have gotten any value from trading Z this year.

I was kind of thinking the same thing about his work load, but I'm not so sure he doesn't have permanent damage. It's pretty clear he's been short arming the ball for a while. However, I think Z had value if the Cubs were willing to eat some of his contract. Now I don't think so. They'd have to take back a Silva type and hope for another Silva Miracle.

Z killed Z's trade value, both with his production and with his behavior.

All the Cubs have done is (re)establish that acting like an arse is unacceptable. That "life lesson" may be lost on Z, but it needed to be reaffirmed to everyone else in the organization. Otherwise you've soon got the inmates running the asylum.

Turning things around wasn't the objective.

so we taught the organization an important life lesson that in no way improved play on the field.

It's people like you, obsessed with just wins and losses, that really ruin sports for the rest of us.

Doing nothing could have made things worse, on and off the field. I thought that was implied with the "inmates running the asylum" comment.

So what exactly is your position here: a) there should be no rules, or b) there should be rules, just no enforcement/consequences?

If the team really wanted to teach Zambrano a lesson in humility, they would have immediately shipped him off to either Pittsburgh or Baltimore. That way he would be forced to play the remainder of his miserable overpaid career in an empty stadium with no chance of competing for a division title.
