Ramirez to DL; Tracy up?

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5266173

Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez will go on the disabled list on Wednesday with soreness in his right thumb, according to two sources close to the situation.

Ramirez has been bothered by the injury for the past two weeks. He is suffering through the worst season of his career, hitting .168 with five home runs and and 22 RBIs in 179 at-bats.

Ramirez missed 80 games in 2009 and was out two months with a left shoulder separation.

Ramirez is striking out at a record pace for him with 45 strikeouts in 47 games. His .285 slugging percentage is the lowest on the team.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs are expected to select the contract of veteran infielder Chad Tracy from Triple-A Iowa. Tracy is batting .396 with five home runs and 18 RBIs in 91 at-bats with Iowa.

Will we see Josh Vitters in a Cubs uniform before the season concludes? Hmm...

Id say not a snowballs chance in hell, but this is the Cubs we are talking about. Even still Id say the odds of that happening are slightly below 0%.

Vitters picked a terrible time to go into a prolonged slump. Not that the team would have called him up anyways, but, if he were hitting the cover off the ball in AA ala Castro it would have been interesting to see what the Cubs would do.

Sounds like he picked a great time to go into a slump, rather than be rushed to the majors when he's not close to being ready.

Last year, the DLing of Aramis Ramirez was the low point of the season, and devestating to the season as well. This year, its about damn time. It could end up being a good thing if Tracy can come off his Iowa hot streak and rake for a little while and Ramirez can come back rested and productive. Big ifs, but still. I just hope that Tracy is at least given the chance to start at 3rd instead of bouncing Fontenot and Baker around.
