It's tough to see Denver trading us Melo without giving up Noah, mostly because there will likely be other teams in play that would offer more than the Bulls platter of Deng, JJ, Taj, and picks.

NY, as much as I laugh at their talent could offer Gallinari, Randolph, and Curry (expiring) for Melo and I think that's a better match for the Nuggets than ours long term.

Deng's contract isn't worse than Johnson or Gay's. On a per dollar, length, and year basis it's probably better.

Of course that doesn't mean it's a GOOD contract or anything Denver is necessarily in the market for.

Danilo Gallinari is God-incarnate come to Earth to reign fiery rage on the hapless NBA.

It's terrible. Deng is a solid player who can't stay healthy and doesn't have a position.

First, I don't know how he doesn't have a position. Not that he's the prototype at SF, but he is definitely a SF.

Secondly, Deng's injury issues have been overblown. The only year he's missed more than 20 games was 08-09. He played 70 last year. And only missed 4 games from 05-07. Melo hasn't been a picture of health the last few years either.

Right. It's still not that great of a contract, but it certainly looks better now than it did at the beginning of this offseason.

I know we're not going to swing a deal with Carmelo if they want Noah. I'd like to be wrong, but I just can't see GarPax giving up Noah.

Eddy Curry is still alive?

Looks like John Paxson just lost a bet...to himself.

So he's missed ~25% of the teams games the last 2 seasons and played hobbled down the stretch last year. The further he is away from those healthy seasons in '05-'07 the less they matter.

Would any of you honestly do anything but laugh if a similar trade was offered to you as Denver GM?

noah and deng and picks and whatever for carmelo as opposed to cap room they can't use because no one wants to play there?

i doubt he's laughing.

i know every contender in the east except for maybe miami is sweating, though, because if this trade happens, it's chicago and miami battling it out for the next decade.

Well Noah isn't being floated, yet, in the rumor mills. Of course if you're Denver and you have any interest at all in dealing Melo you ask for Noah.

The question is can you get Melo without giving up Noah. Probably not unless you get another team involved.

Posted

Yeah, I'm not gonna get too invested in this. It's just Melo and the merits are pretty close either way if you do a deal that includes Noah.

Reading this thread in the period between July 1 and THE DECISION is pretty hilarious...just a consistent, unrelenting wave of BS being spouted by every NBA beat writer in the country.

It would be an interesting test of Thibodeaux's wizardry. So you're supposed to be a defensive coach huh? Make defenders out of this!

The trade in question and Deng's health are totally different issues. I wouldn't take the trade if I'm Denver, but I would be wrong to cite Deng's health as a primary reason for declining.

And saying he missed 25% of the team's games the last 2 years is seriously skewing the data. He missed 40% 2 years ago, and less than 15% last year, while playing a career high in minutes per game.

Denver would be foolish to NOT trade him. He's going to bail on them regardless at the end of the season.

Then they can sign and trade him for crummy old Luol Deng (If he's still alive). Or Melo can get a less than max contract.
