It used to be that you'd hear Ronnie groan a couple of times a game, but now it's to the point where his sighs, groans and ah-mans are making the radio broadcast unlistenable. I gave up on him actually providing a useful insight some time ago, and I was willing to put up with his act because of his undying love of the Cubs, but he might just be the worst broadcaster in baseball today. It's time that he become a Cubs ambassador and give the mike to someone who can actually support one of best play-by-play guys in the business.

I came to the conclusion today that I just can't tolerate Santo in the booth anymore. I have never liked him as a broadcaster, but I have been able to look past his occasional grunts and groans and give him a pass as the die-hard Cubs fan that he is. JonnyRed is right that the sighs and groans have increased to a point that the broadcast really is painful to listen to. The sad part is that Ron lives for the Cubs and I don't know if he could handle being let go, so the Cubs are really in a tough situation. They will probably give him the job as long as he wants it, and I can't really blame them for doing so, but the broadcast quality is suffering more than ever.

The sighs and oh-mans have definitely increased. I've also noticed that his mind seems to be going as well. It takes him much longer to get his thoughts out than it used to. There were times when Pat would make fun of Ron for a mistake he'd made, but now Pat just sort of continues on without commenting on what Ron has to say. Ronny is awesome, but it might be time to quit broadcasting.

I just hope he makes it into the Hall while he's still alive. With all his health problems one has to wonder how much time he has left.

Ron started out in a three-man booth. Why not bring it back?

A credible analyst would allow him to remain yet maintain the quality of the broadcast.

I'm a big fan of Sutcliffe in the booth. Can't stand Otto.

Moreland was quite good in the Mets series.

I love Keith Moreland in the booth. When the day comes that Ronny just can't do it anymore and if Pat is still the play by play man, I'd like to see Moreland step in.

When the time comes that Santo simply can't be in the booth anymore - or when Brenly inevitably leaves for another managerial job - they'll go and lure Gracie away from the Arizona booth, for better or for worse.

It will be interesting to see which direction they go, but I hope they don't have to make the decision for awhile.

I'd be fine with making it a 3 man booth though, if they wanted to go that direction.

Rick Sutcliffe makes me want to poke my ears out with a compass.

Maybe they should build a better ballclub? Ron was there through many crappy years of product from the Cubs, it won't hurt them to have a few years at less than his best now.
