Shark sent packing for Iowa

Recommended Posts

And he's going to be used out of the pen even at Iowa. Maybe they're writing him off as a starter.

to be a starter that would require him developing at least 2 more pitches other than his fastball and i bet the Cubs are thinking that might take a very long time..

I think this is the best thing for Samardzija. He is not going to be a starter. He'll be fortunate to be a decent middle reliever at this point. He needs to work on his 4-seamer + off-speed out-pitch combo and forget about 3+ secondary pitches.

It's pretty clear the guy should have stuck with football. I know he got a nice payday after getting drafted by the Cubs, but in terms of playing at a high level, he couldn't do much worse in the NFL. Troy Williamson is still in the league for God's sake!

I agree. I think there is still hope that Shark can still become a serviceable reliever. I think going down to Iowa, sticking him in a specific role and having his work on and developed two pitches over 4 pitches will do wonders for him.
