Re: RHP Daniel Berlind to Peoria

Berlind is 6'7", 210 lbs. 23 year old. He was originally selected by the Cubs in the 44th round in 2006. The Minnesota Twins selected him in the 7th round in 2007. Berlind has played three years in the Twins organization, never raising above Single-A Beloit. His numbers his last season in Beloit were 5-13. 4.76 ERA, 97 K, 56 BB, 1.45 WHIP in 2009. He was pitching in 2010 for Sussex in the Can-Am League, were he was 2-3 with a 4.38 ERA.

http://www.baseballamerica.com... report from 2007 draft. Basically, it says he's got a 90-92 mph fastball. It also says he had a decent slider, and a decent (but new) changeup.

Peralta jumping over the Boise arms is ... intriguing. Haven't checked to see if this was a scheduling issue, though.

Luis Liria is scheduled to start for Boise the same day Peralta is with Peoria (tomorrow), so it certainly doesn't sound like a scheduling issue.

Hmm ... I'll take it as positive development that Collin Richardson got the bump up, which leaves the only prep pitcher from the 2010 draft still in AZL as Hartmann, and he seems to really be scuffling. That said, only barely 19 so I imagine he'll get a bit more time.

The Cubs on Friday released minor-league outfielder Fernando Perez, who was acquired as part of the Matt Garza trade with Tampa Bay.

A former seventh-round pick of the Rays, Perez never made the Cubs' roster. He spent this season in Triple-A Iowa.

According to Bruce Miles, The Cubs have released Fernando Perez. Could the I Cubs be making room for a certain center fielder?

I'm sure the Cubs also want to promote Szczur to Daytona but with Ha's struggles, he isn't ready to return to Tennessee. Personally, I'd rather Brett stay at AA but I'm sure the Cubs want to push him.

Maybe we'll see Jackson, Crawford (instead of Ha), Szczur, Chen and Easterling all move up 1 level.

Love this organizational depth at CF

Assuming that the Perez move is setting the stage for big organizational shifts (after all, maybe a James Adduci is ready to come off DL and they thought they didn't need to keep Perez around anymore), one possibility that should trouble me a bit, but doesn't, would be having Szczur go to Tennessee. I should be bothered by this, but for some reason, I'm not. That could lead to Chen going to Peoria, and maybe have Geiger go to Boise (as Na could take over in CF).

I am somewhat baffled by the fact that Brett Jackson isnt on a plane to Iowa as we speak. With the offensively inept You Tube star out of the picture, the I Cubs are left without a natural CF, meanwhile, Tennessee has one that seems to have done all hes going to do down there, and like you said, Ha or Craford can get sent to AA so we dont have 3 good, young CFs in Daytona.

IN addition to Szczur, Brett Ebinger is going to AA, Ben Klafczynski to Peoria from Boise, and Su-Min Jung was demoted to Boise.

Forgetting stats from Boise and with development in mind, Chen is getting his CF reps there while he goes thru his position change, he is young and no need to rush him, he is very talented and it appears they want to develop him as a classic speedy leadoff CF.

My guess is that Szczur's stay in Daytona may be a short one and will be in AA sooner than later.

Na needs to work on his hitting, and Taiwan may get the call to Boise after much needed plate appearances.

Expect Paul Hoilman to be moved to Peoria soon. As odd as his statline is so far, they stated he is working on using the right side of the field more. Those type changes take time, not physically, but situationally as sometimes hitters can double-cross themselves and stats take a hit.

Too bad for Ty Wright. Seemed to be doing well enough for himself in Iowa, and while I woulodnt exactly consider him a "prospect", hes certainly more so than Montanez or Snyder.

I like Wright, but he's really a system OF type. His talent/skill level just doesn't fit in a corner role. While he may be more of a prospect than the other two, both those guys have enough skill to perhaps justify an occasional call-up, depth spot on a big league roster. I think it's quite hard for me to believe that Ty Wright could possibly fill such a role, although I hope he can prove me wrong.
